Bank thermometer read -24 when I went to get coffee. with the wind chill I would say @-35.Kids have been out of school 2 days now and with the upcoming holiday that is 3 in a row.Only a week since they went back from Christmas break. Oh well, I guess a mid June release date is not that bad.Varsity basketball has had 4 cancellations out of 10 games scheduled. On the plus side the high today is supposed to be +7. Highs above freezing by the end of next week.
Was -8 this morning in NH when I started the car (thankfully it cranked over right away!)
I work at an airport and our guys fuel the airplanes and such. I think I just saw them running through the hose that squirts de-icer fluid (it is heated) to keep warm like little kids run through the hose in the summer to stay cool! I feel for those guys on days like this.
20Dad - you should be happy...once this cold spell breaks on sunday snow is right behind it...4-8" I just heard on the radio. Go plow that snow!!

75 and sunny here today!
Headin' out the door with some fly rods, a float tube and a cooler to a nearby lake.

rbinaz,
Have fun. Around here you would need an auger... A real long auger! Then again, you'd just stay inside.

When did Arizona get water?
We've had this discussion before with another Ohioan. Yes, OS, there is water in the Great South West .... and fish too!!! C'mon down (if you can get out of driveway.)
Nice lookin Grass Carp!
We got fish that big in our farm pond! errr... Ice skating rink!

Hey, I'm getting ready to head out for an afternoon duck hunt shortly, shoud I wear a long sleeve tee, or do you all think short sleeves will be ok today?

PG is that where frozen fish sticks come from?
I might need a sweater on the golf course down here tomorrow.
My wife found one of these in her glove box. Does anybody know what the heck it's for?

There's duck in Cali?
Aware of assorted fruits and nuts, but ducks?
Oh, yeah, Daffy and Donald

That water has a familiar hue, like Lake Erie?
.
I love the sound the airplanes make when the temperature is really sub zero....I mean, not sub-zero (common around here, of course) but REALLY BELOW zero. Double digits below zero! The air is really thin and there is almost an echo-like sound......very "cool"!

Do you mean an eerily familiar hue? Nah it's a western striper... only has two eyes.
I would never, ever make it up north. It was 30 this morning and I wanted to cry. It is 62 now, bright and sunny. I would rather fight hurricanes then deal with temperatures below 0.
I am very sorry to have to report that here, in our lovely Northern Cali, it is 70 degrees in the shade.
I opened all the windows to let the warm fresh air in. It is warmer outside than it is inside!
Beautiful day for BB conditioning
I hope the wicked cold leaves you all soon!

this is what you use to chisel out the door handle so you can get to the ice scrapper.

I guess nobody really wants to buy water from the Great Lakes considering everybody wants to sell it.
Was that an intake plant in the background of your photo?
Its 1 degree in Partlow, Va. I don't know how you northern folks do it. Way too cold for me!
Today I was watching a local JC have a intersquad game here in Northern Cali. I just had to go out today and watch some baseball.I started thinking of what baseball must be like in the cold weather states. We are truly lucky with the warm weather we are having. Same thing happened several years ago with early warm weather then when the season started lots of rain and cancelled games. I have a funny feeling that might happen again. Hope not. I wish for the weather to get better and all of your sons can get outside on the field.

US in the Northern tier can't wait for it to get to +1
We're in an unusual heat wave here....low 40s Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, before the forecast shows us plunging into hard winter again.....
I'll have the boys out doing some live BP and fieldwork, as they're going stir-crazy in the gym. Gotta take what we can get!

A few days of 20 to 30 below, one small town reported 39 below (I'm not so sure about that one) but what difference does it make once it gets down to 20 below (real temp) with 40 to 50 below (wind chills)?
Yesterday, it warmed up a lot (into the 20s) However, the winds were in the 40s and driving down the road we experienced a wonderful northern phenomenon called "white out". Lots of fun! Especially on icy roads. Can’t see and the icy roads drift over. And we are southerners compared to some posters here.
It is great being a snowbird, the type that doesn't migrate! I will take this any day, over a hurricane! The next day is much worse with hurricanes. With this stuff, you can simply stay inside. No need to evacuate! On the other hand, we do get several tornados and floods to contend with. What the heck are we doing living here?
Still lots of baseball going on inside our building. Thing that bothers me the most is what this is doing to the pheasant population around here.
Put me in the Northern Sympathizer group.
Don't know how you do it.
Don't know how you do it.
So I mistakenly thought that after the 48 degree day this past week that it was finally time to pull out the clubs and get ready for Spring! ... We received a pleasant 3/4 inch sheet of ice yesterday followed by almost 9 inches of snow last night.
No joke ... I had to take a baseball in one hand and hammer the ice off of the door to get to the ice scraper! Never leave home without a baseball or two or you could be in serious trouble these days.

Snowing here in NH...AGAIN!! Calling for another 5" - 10". If it were to rain we'd all be in trouble..with so much snow on the roofs we'd have collapses left and right! We need some 40+ degree days to help melt off the roofs!!
I believe I heard first day for baseball here in NH for schools is March 16...needless to say tryouts will be indoors again for the 100th year in a row...lol.
Where is this Al Gore with his "Global Warming" stuff...not seeing it here in our winters!!

We opened up today with a 14-1 win. 75 degrees, no wind and sunny. No walks and no errors.
It can only get worse or stay the same from here I guess. It can't get any better.

Not cold here. It was 60 today, warm and sunny. Jr. Colleges are playing and the D1 schools start practicing on Sunday.
My son plays Saturday with game time weather forecasted to be sunny and a nice 70 degrees warming to a high of 77 degrees.
.
Well PG...if you're really concerned about the pheasant population in your building you might consider having them moved out of harm's way.
Give these folks a call...I'll bet they can help you out.

We had like 2 days of rain on the 23-24 of Jan in So Cal, but it was still 60+ degrees. We hand tryouts for LL in the rain.
We had rain yesterday too...on top of 6 inches of snow!! Try cleaning that mess up! uggghhhhhh!!
That is why there are people in the north with 8 or 9 fingers....they stupidly stick their hands in their snowblower shoots to clear out the blockage Had to shut mine down 3 times to clear it out in the pouring rain before it all froze up over night...what a blast!
I want to punch Al Gore in the face....Global warming my A$$!!!!!

You guys are tough!!I can't even imagine that kind of cold.We basically have 70-80'F year around. On the few days that we dip into the 50-60's,we're layered up.Lately we've been having north winds that have dipped us into the high 50's/low 60's in the morning.BRRRRR!!
.
Hawaii sounds so inviting...what with the pleasant weather, warm and welcoming people, and the beautiful scenery.
But you do have to deal with those coconuts...that would be too much for me!

Don't forget year-round baseball.
