Not our typical post but cold is a modest view of what it feels like outside in Indianapolis today! Temp reads -4 and feels like -21 (I think that is a judgment call as I had to chip ice off my tires this morning). Yeah, it's kind of cold out. Where is the baseball weather. I know it's early but January means baseball is around the corner for us!

27 below, real temp. (not wind chill) this morning in our beautiful area of the country. Even colder out in the country where we live . Oh yea, the roads are snow and ice covered, too.

We went to a new years day bowl in Tampa. You could tell the people who were from Iowa. All those from the south were bundled up and all those from Iowa were wearing shorts and short sleeves. Smile

I love it! Big Grin
Sorry to say it got down to a bone chilling 49 last night out here in the land of fruits and nuts....OH MY looks like we have a big cold spell coming plummeting to 43 on MLK day…Smile

Surprisingly enough, some of son's best college games were pitched in the colder weather. He's a sinkerball guy and although he hates the cold and can't feel the stitches, he finds that the ball just finds the right place to sink in colder weather.

One of his best college games, I think was pitched in 23-24 with wind chill of 18-19.

I do feel for you northerners, that's why we moved to Florida.
Reports are that the death toll is double-digit in WI as a result of the cold in the last 36 hours. Almost all have been elderly heart attacks, the homeless have not yet been found. For those who have not been in weather like this, imagine the feeling of your eyeballs freezing but when you close your eyes the lashes freeze together (wear sunglasses), it's hard to breath, your skin hurts, your teeth feel brittle, you can't feel your fingers or toes and then it feels like penatrating needles when you go inside to get warm. The inside car thermometer read -9 this AM and I park in my garage, 30 min later it was up to +5, and the old saying "don't put your tongue on the monkey bars" is a BAD idea.

I left the house this morning and my daughter said...

"Dad, Go straight to work, don't stop at the bank or the airport".

I looked in the mirror and the only exposed skin on my body was a 1 inch strip across my face below my glasses.

If Hell has a North pole, we're there, and it's worse North of us.

Show off!

On a side note: I had heard back in December that the Farmer's Almanac had reported that this would be one of most brutal winters this country has faced in many years. <grumbles>

When I lived in southern CA I thought the black knee socks with tie shoes and Bermuda shorts on the beach was the tip off. Smile

As I said on another thread... I am currently in Chicago on business. I just walked 5 blocks from Randolph Street Station to the Chicago Hilton. It's 14 below outside, and stupid guy from California has no hat. I think I need to go back 3 blocks to Congress Street and pick up my left ear.

I kid you not... this is probably the coldest I have ever felt.

Be safe people...

It's -28 in Fort Kent, Maine right now. This is the northern tip of Maine. The forecasted low tonight is -37. It sure makes 17 seem warm.

I have Fort Kent on my list for my Yahoo weather widget. When I feel cold I check Fort Kent. The forecasted low tonight is -37. It's going up to -7 tomorrow.

Here in Philly it's supposed to get down to +5/+6. Not to good but could be worse from what I'm hearing. This weather can be tough on autos also. I spent 2 hours on the cell phone with Jr. (Wayne State Neb.) this morning lineing up a tow truck for his broke down vehicle. Thank the "Big Guy" for giving me the sense to get AAA before he went out there this past fall. They were literally a lifesaver. I'll never go without that membership. You want to experieance a helpless feeling try imageing getting a phone call from a loved one 1200 miles away, broke down, with the temprature below zero. I haven't gotten the repair bill yet but all things considered the day turned out with a happy ending.

Ouch, I thought you guys would be a little warmer that us since you are south, but that's worse than Minneapolis today. I heard on the radio that this was our lowest temp in 5 years, though. Something like 24 below, with a windchill of 79,000 below zero. Smile

Last night I complained about the cold a little...twice...well, maybe 3 times Wink ...because we had to venture back out of our almost-warm house for church activities. My husband told me to QUIT complaining about the cold! Where's the fun if you can't complain? Wink

RJM, That is a low blow!

We're not all uncool. I see a lot more real strange people as we travel around to other parts of the country. If you see someone in Iowa wearing knee high black socks and Bermuda shorts... You can bet he is a transplant! If you want to pick out an Iowan in Southern California, look for the one who looks and acts like a normal human being! Unless behind the wheel, then look for the person who looks scared to death.

Huh....wah....the 65MPH speed limit is only a "recommendation" to us Californians. shhhhhh…....don’t tell anyone……..I will let a secret out..... it is a typo..…. the speed limit is really 85 (in the slow lane of course)

Seriously I must say it is really weird here right now, I am sitting here typing this with the window open and it is 70 out (at 9PM) and really dry….this is NOT winter weather, it is really strange. We need some rain so we don’t burn up and blow away next summer!

Wow, you guys are really getting hammered. Out here in California's central valley, it's just the opposite. I've spent the last two days duck hunting, and it has been in the mid 60s. This afternoon, it was so warm I was just wearing a camo tee shirt in the duck blind, no jacket and about 65 degrees.

You guys hang in there, and remember.....it's Al Gore's fault!
