Yep, it's just a matter of time.

Last year there were a few HS football games on ESPN.

This year, there has been one almost every weekend if not more.

With air time comes advertisement interest.

With advertisement comes money. With money comes pressure.

Mark my word, in 10+ years you will see some of the same penalities cast on HS athletics as you seen cast upon college programs today.

More agents, more advisors, more money...more trouble.

It's coming folks. Enjoy it now.

Wake Up America!

Enough air time to do more this year than last. Enough air time to run multiple games on any given weekend.

Players will not be the primary target in the beginning. The programs will. Contracts for coaches, money for the individual school, etc.

Aren't sports supposed to be secondary to academics in High School?

And they still call them student/athletes?

10 years from now!

What about 10 years ago.

I can name, but won't, at least 20 high school football head coaches in the state of Texas who make 1 dollar less than the principal does....and they don't teach a class. There are high school football coaches making 6 figures to be the school AD and head football coach and the players start practice at 1:30 and hour before school gets out because Texas has athletic periods during the academic day.

Those head coaches make their assistants who aren't making but 5-10 grand to coach football meet all day on Saturdays and all day on Sundays.

This mess started a long long time ago!

All I could think when I saw this game was, "are those high school kids???...the hell would I want to watch some other people's kids play schoolboy football?" I was forced to turn off the b00b tube and go outside.

In the end, it was a good thing.

Look around, all sports have become about money.

I'll agree with that.

Do you recommend a "just deal with it" approach?

I agree with swingbuilder. I myself am currently getting my education degree with aspirations of coaching not only baseball but football as well. I have grown up with sports and played at top levels and I truly have a passion for them. However, I love teaching! I love the coursework and I love sharing it with others. Obviously Dieselpusher you have not had some of the great teacher/coaches out there. I personally think that coaches can be even more well rounded than other teachers, due to there abilities to handle adversity and their ability to teach life lessons in the classroom on top of their class curriculum.

Just my two cents....

OA5II, brilliant post, I think even Guthrie agrees with you. I have nothing against football or what ever they do. Turn the channel or don't participate if you don't agree. HS baseball coaches and summer ball coaches, you do the same as football. Baseball is year round, club coaches are getting paid 8-9 months a year. It used to be Jan and Feb practice and then March thru July tournaments. Now club coaches say they need to start in Nov and Dec. I personally do not agree with that at all. I stated several months ago that D-bat was too much baseball all 12 months of the year, well it is for me and my kids but I am fine with d-bat doing whatever, whenever they want. You guys were right about that. I don't have to have my kids play baseball 10 months of the year so I choose not to. I actually agree with d-bat's new fall instructional program for ages 8-14. That is a great program. Lastly, football does get bigger and bigger every year, but, heh, guess what baseball guys, so does baseball.
Actually, if the PARENT, would take charge and NOT PAY those CRAZY amounts then we could all go back to normal baseball schedules and stop traveling all over everywhere for nothing and wasting even more money.

To this day, I can not figure out why a parent would pay over 20-25 bucks for a lesson of any kind in any sport....EVER.

Its the parents who have made the monster....now the monster controls the parents.

PS. Then they all think their getting it back with college scholarships and bonus money.

Its all a cluster. Select baseball, 7 on 7 football, spring football practice in high school, select volleyball, select s****r, summer basketball leagues, fall high school baseball, winter baseball leagues.

Heck do parents have jobs now a days. Big Grin

Heck I even know a 12u coach who flys players in from all over the country and then gives them 3-400 dollar bats.

Parents put both your feet down!

Um, I'm pretty sure you missed the point.

Just like if fans would stop going to MLB games...

Ticket prices would go down and players salaries would decrease.

Wink
