Being on vacation, I have had some extra time to more closely follow some threads in different Forums.

It would appear.... that hsbaseballweb has once again entered into the "testy" period(between the end of actual baseball playing season...i.e. "down time" and the beginning of the next season's preparation)when folks hereabouts tend to...(how do I phrase this)... oh, what the heck! Ill just blurt it out....

...have TOO much time on their hands and go out of their way to goad, elbow, question/dis-agree and prod others about just about any subject that gets brought up!!! Eek

Someone is forever stepping on the next guy's(or gal's) toes, having a "better" way or "the best" solution", a "superior" experience or the "ultimate" answer.

MY ADVICE/EXPERIENCE/SOLUTION IS BETTER THAN YOUR ADVICE/EXPERIENCE/SOLUTION! (Ya'll notice I did change the order of some of the words?)

I really just want to point out that baseball is SUCH a diverse game, played in SO many areas, under SO many varied conditions that it is JUST possible that not every answer to every situation is the same. Wink

Show some toleration(and I will be more tolerant of those of you who still choose to disagree, etc.)... get along... be THANKFUL(Thanksgiving is very close).... and best of wishes to everyone for another great season of playing, watching, parenting, coaching, growing, learning and participating in baseball through hsbaseballweb!

Hey, you pitchers' dads should just be happy that you don't ever suffer from PMS like all of us pitcher's moms (Pitcher's Mom Syndrome).

So you will probably say that you have seasonal PDS (Pitcher's Dad Syndrome). Ha! There's just no comparison.

Remember that when Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!!

I know it's now the baseball offseason but I can't help but think about what is coming up in less than 3 months from now.

I needed help but no one was there. It started Friday when I rented a s****r movie. They were actually having practices on a baseball field – ahh. My son was gone most of the weekend trying to have a “social life” prior to baseball kicking in again. Finally I snapped.

My wife and I always thought about adoption and today seemed to be the right day. Obviously, getting a newborn is tough and we weren’t sure if we were young enough to go through all that again. So we got an older boy.

It was great, brought him home and we went out back with a bucket of baseballs. I threw and he chased them down – guaranteed SS or centerfielder IMHO. The boy can run. He wouldn’t throw the ball back, he just collected them all…..I think it’s a trust thing. All I know is I had a blast.

He absolutely loves my van – Travel Baseball here we come!!! I started looking into some pros that might help him along and I was really surprised that my wife wanted to be the one that brought him. I figure it is time my wife gets to witness the nuances of good throwing, hitting and fielding mechanics. She did confuse me a bit though, she was excited about seeing him be able to sit, stay, rollover and things like that.

I think she is losing her mind – but I’m fine now.
I need to ask a question. When you throw a baseball, field a baseball, or hit a baseball what are you trying to teach? Are you trying to teach a 12 year old a different swing then a minor league baseball player? Why is there so much confusion in the mechanics of the fundamentals of baseball. Who are the best baseball players in the world? Do they all throw different, swing different, and field a groundball different. If you look hard and study the best then you will see that people are drafted in the 1st round for a reason. They have what everyone else is trying to learn. So why not start kids off at an earlier age and teach them what the major leaguers do?
Guru,

I noticed that you posted a few times tonight in "skills" related threads, and wanted to say "Welcome!". Your posts about teaching baseball skills look promising.

Since you also posted in this thread that was not related to teaching baseball skills, I just wanted to share a little cautionary thought with you. Before I do, let me say ... I am delighted to see that you are a former college player who is willing to share his knowledge and experience here. That is terrific and really adds to our forums!

But the note of caution I want to offer is this:

Sometimes discussions about hitting, etc., turn into debates (fine) which turn into heated arguments (sometimes not so bad) which descend into personal attacks (not good). Since you seem to have some pretty strong opinions about what works, I would just suggest that as you throw questions out there for discussion, you truly keep an open mind about the other members' points of view. Sometimes new "gurus" on our site ask questions which seem pretty reasonable, but then it becomes obvious that they were really saying, "Tell me your opinion so that I can prove you wrong, and demonstrate my superiority on this topic!" But as long as you keep an open mind and a civil "pen", I think we are in for some interesting winter discussions!

Guru, your screen name tells me all I need to know about you. But I read some of your posts anyway. Im just a curious guy. You ask a question hoping to get a response that you can bash with your (guru) knowledge. No one knows it all. No one! Every player is different. What works for one will not work for all. Hitting is NOT and exact science. And contrary to your beliefs you do not have all the answers. So please GURU stop acting like you do. Posting information and asking questions that great. Posting questions looking for suspects in order to bash them once they do answer, well thats GURU like isnt it.
