My son loved what he saw in our visit to the campus in Feb. Deos anyone have any insight on the ball program, school or what they are looking for in recruits?
They recently had seasons where 2 players on their team had like 25+ home runs and a couple others were double digits in homeruns. Im guessing their field is a bambox.

Despite the fact that their field dimensions may favor a few more homeruns--they certainly have seemed to produce some legitimately awesome players...Kulbalki being just one... Great to hear that they have plans for a new field.
Any input on Coach Mac? Anyone familiar with the baseball experience there? I know it's not a Christian school--is it? Seems like some of the staff are--a bonus.
About their field, we had a showcase tournament for my team earlier in the fall and the new field was originally a community field (Valley League Field) that JMU purchased, the field is nice but not to the level of some of the other schools in the CAA.
There is a short right-field porch at JMU and Kulbacki took advantage of it, but let's face it, they don't draft you 44th if you can't hit legitimately.
The one time I saw the field I thought it was an oddity. They have astroturf in the infield, grass in the outfield. Left me wondering whether the outfielders change shoes when they come up to bat. I hadn't heard of them getting a new field. The existing stadium is well located on campus, other than the surface I thought it looked pretty decent, but I suppose a newly renovated facility would be nice, too.
The program had a great year in 2006, fell off some in 2007, but they are usually CAA contenders.
It is not a religious school. It is a state-supported university with I think about 14,000 undergraduates. It began as a women's teacher's college but went co-ed and then became a university in the 1970's. It underwent an expansion in the 1970's and 1980's and is a pretty well respected degree to have at this point. They still have a large education program including a 5-year master's program, but business and computer science are also very big majors there.
It doesn't surprise me that your son loved what he saw when he went there. I don't know if it's the education school or what, but the school's coeds would make you think they have a modeling school there or something. My oldest went there to tour the school and got whiplash just walking around.
Plus, their food program must be the very best in the nation. If you didn't eat there you didn't get the full experience.
