I was watching the WBC classic the other day, and there was a pitcher for Italy that had played in Japan. The announcers siad he learned his delivery over there. His mechanics were very similar to other players that have pitched in the MLB from Japan with two pauses during the delivery. One after the step back, and one at the top of the leg raise. I assume this is done to mess with the hitters timing, but it seems this would come at the expense of momentum, control, and velocity. I definately wouldn't teach any of my players it, but does anyone know where this style came from? Who over there is teaching them this, ie. is there a Japanese pitching "guru"?
