John Farrell is in his first year as Red Sox manager.  Everybody in Boston loves the guy right now.  The media loves him, players love playing for him.  His team in first place with roughly 22 games to go. What is there not to love?  He appears to be the second coming of Francona.   Everything I've read and seen indicates the guy has a plan and he has executed that plan flawlessly this year. He's dealt with injuries and adversity well.  Players have responded to him.  So, here's the question:  Is this guy really that good, or were our expectations lowered so much because of "he who must not be named"?

Thoughts on John Farrell and the job he has done.  AL Manager of the Year?

I think you can make a case for AL manager of the year for several guys.

No Particular Order:

Buck Showalter O's  - Great Season in a very tough division

Ron Washington Rangers - Tx Husker made a case already

Terry Francona Indians - Cleveland Indians are back on the map

John Farrell Red Sox - Great season replacing you know who

Bob Melven A's - Back to back, probably not, but just as deserving this year as last

don't know about hands down, He basically has the team that was picked 2 years ago. Now a really good job has been done by Joe Gerrardi.  Now all you Bosox fans don't want to here it but this guy managed his butt off just to keep them afloat. Lost a whole starting lineup almost and now they are poised to come back from the dead after everyone had them buried!

Agreed.  No question.  Girardi has done an excellent job with one hand tied behind his back, and a GM that cut their salary situation way back.    The Yankees should be toast but aren't....yet.
