The Yankees supposedly have a new coach in charge of hitting and is being credited with A-Rod's great season and change in hitting approach.

I thought Don Mattingly was their hitting Coach. What's the guy's name?

Mattingly is the bench coach---the hitting coach is Kevin Long

I thought when Mattingly was hired,he was hired as the hitting coach but somewhere down the line,it got changed.


He is from right across the river and when he was hired,the news was reporting hitting coach.But we all know how the news usually gets it wrong.

Here in the Northeast the story was that he was hired as the Heir Apparent to Joe Torre---if you noticed he was at Torres side at all times in the dugout

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but when Matingly was first hired it was as the hitting coach he was at that position for 3 years. This past season was the first of him being the bench coach with many many peole believeing that he is going to step in and be the manager in the future of the Yankees.
