CoachB25,
Funny that you would use Edmonds as your example. During yesterday's game Edmonds went back on a well hit ball to center, stopped and then leapt to catch it. He was in position and could have made a good but routine catch out of it without any leap. I'll take Lima's genuine if somewhat overboard enthusiasm any time.
CaDad, I guess this is one of those irregular verbs: My guy is entertaining, you're guy is a hot dog, his guy should be suspended! Wink Perceived behavior is pretty much colored by the uni. (Although one exagerated catch vs nine innings of, um, "enthusiasm"? Okay....)

My Cards fan site started moaning about Lima's act....but then we remembered our own Andujar years ago and had to let it slide.
CADad, I used Edmonds for a very different reason. He has been very kind to my family and yet, he is considered by many if not MOST to be a HOTDOG. He could not tell you my name and yet, he remembers me as a high school coach whose team played at Busch. He had been very kind to our players that afternoon and I made a special effort to thank him. To make a long story short, he sees me and my girl in the stands and asked for me to come down on the field. Players aren't supposed to do that! He did and my daughter got to stand next to some of her idols. He is a very classy man and I often wonder why people never see that side of him. I'll tell you one thing, this old guy really appreciates what he did for my child.

I THOUGHT WHAT THE DODGERS AND CARDINALS DID AFTER THE GAME SHOWED TWO CLASS ORGANIZATIONS AND WAS IN TURN VERY GOOD FOR BASEBALL.
Thanks, Coach, I mentioned what I sincerely hope will become a postseason-postgame tradition in an earlier post and wondered if anybody else would comment.

Loads of posts on Lima's behavior, mostly suportive even, but not much being said about that wonderful display of sportsmanship and class.....on this site, where those things are meant to be important.

Loved the story about Edmonds --- how thrilling for your daughter! I believe (by watching him and through his interviews) that Jimmy recognizes that baseball is both a sport and an entertainment. People come to see the sizzle as well as the steak. And he's got both!

(I've tried this repeatedly and can't get it to work...sorry!)

It's a rugby thing, a way of restarting the game, where the players gather in a strange knot, pushing and jockeying for position....can't really see what's going on but you know well you don't want to be in the middle of it!

Lisa knows!
