In my opinion, the Marlins used the Rangers to force the Red Sox into sweetening the proposal for Beckett. The Marlins are in the midst of another firesale -- and the kids they will receive from Boston are inexpensive, unlike Lowell and Beckett (in a few years). Also, Hicks and Daniels run from long-term contracts for pitching since Chan Ho -- which will leave us in the same old fix until "our" kids are ready. Diamond or Danks and Blaylock for Beckett and Lowell -- sounds like a good deal for both teams to me. With these acquistions, the Marlins may contend again before the Rangers sniff the ALCS....in a new city perhaps. Hmmm, the Buffalo Marlins??? Huh?
