Josh Hamilton

I know he lost, but honestly, that first round made the entire event worth watching. He won the fans--who the even is made for in the first place... I just hope he doesn't go Abreu style.

I was thinking the same thing as I was watching. I thought of Abreu and wondered, has even hit 41 HR's total since the 2005 derby???

VERY fun to watch and with a room full of collegiate summer baseball players, you can imagine how loud it got. heehee Neat story.

Hamilton's performance last night was fantastic. Every first round bomb had my 6 year-old bouncing off the walls.

I could've done without some of the comments from the ESPN guys though....one commented that the NY fans were supporting Josh because they know there's a good chance he will be playing for the Yankees in three to four years.

Do any of you remember the old black-and-white Home Run Derby tv shows from the 50's or 60's? They would face off two guys at Wrigley or some other field. That was great stuff.

does anyone recall one of the announcers stating that the field "was full of white guys this year."

Saying that the champs had been of a minority race the last couple of years.. does anyone think he will face criticism because of this, or am I the only one that thinks that comment was out of line?

I think there were multiple comments that maybe weren't completely out of line, but rather just inappropriate for the situation and the moment.

Also when a young one gets hit maybe they will stop having 400 shaggers in the outfield. I watched more nervous about a little girl getting hit by a Hamilton frozen rope than for the actual home run.

Aside from the "white guys" comment the other dumbest thing said was when Rick Riley said that Josh Hamilton has kept quiet until now and has just begun to "tell his story."

How ignorant can he be? Josh speaks to groups every chance he gets. He even gave his testimony (a word Riley would not understand) to over 500 people who met in the home run porch to hear him after a game a few weeks back.

Sometimes these guys on TV just flap their gums and we all get to watch their brains fall out!

That announcer was talking about Josh just now telling his story of how he had a "dream" that he would be in the home run derby at Yankee Stadium (He stated that he had the dream before he knew that Yankee Stadium would be the site of the All-Star game and the Home Run Derby).

There may have been some silly comments but I did get a chuckle when Kruk said it's not a good night to be an atheist after Hamilton talked about his dream 2 years ago of being interviewed at Yankee stadium on national TV and then hit 28 HR's in round 1.

I am now a Rangers fan. One of my former players LHP Matt Harrison is pitching for the Rangers. And Josh was a team mate of my nephew in HS on an all star team. I saw him pitch against Neighborgahl who when to Ga Tech. Josh was 94-95 from the hill in hs. How good of a hitter do you have to be to be left handed and throwing mid 90's and drafted for your stick? The guy is amazing. And his story is just as amazing.

The Great Hambino is a true inspiration both on and off the field. What a great story. I wish every high school kid could hear his story, it just might change lives.

My question is, how in the world did the Rangers ever get lucky enough to get him? Now we just have to hope they don't mess it up and let him get out of here. Tom Hicks is probably already trying to figure out how much he can get for him.

SO we got lucky through the Rangers standard M.O. of giving up the good pitchers of the future. Maybe this one time it worked out. hahahahaha
