Easy call for me. Given what he has put himself through then picked himself up from, how he handles himself on the field and how he delivers in ALL phases of the game, plus what he stands for above and beyond baseball, Josh Hamilton hands down for me. If you get a chance to read his book, hear him speak or meet him in person, take advantage of it. You'll walk away a fan.
Does anyone have Hamilton's book that they wouldn't mind sending to me? I would send it back of course, but just wondering if someone wants to help me out. Thanks.
Josh, the Natural and how about that Benji Molina! Except for the sometimes shaky relief this series, Texas has just looked like they want it more. Of course now Mickey Mantle--I mean Josh Hamilton --is on Texas.
I'm a big fan of Hamilton. A big sign of respect from his teammates - When Texas won the division, Hamilton went into the training room to avoid the champaign celebration. When they won the 1st round of the playoffs, they all greeted Hamilton by showering him with Ginger Ale. Awesome thing to do for a teammate and it shows how much they respect him. I personally hope Texas goes all the way. And I have never even paid much attention to the Rangers before this post season.
Without a doubt, Josh Hamilton! What else can I say except that his phoenix-like rise from his former life transcends his prowess with a bat or glove. Life lessons for all thinkers whether they be sports fans or not!
Hamilton's post-game comments last night give me 2 more reasons to say he is my new favorite player. What class -- to give God the glory and also to speak more of his teammates than of what contributions he made to the series! Way to go, Mr. Hamilton!
That interview on the field last night defined him as a person and player...and it's what we in DFW see from him every day/game.
1-Gave all thanks and credit to his Lord and Savior 2-Didn't want to talk about himself, he wanted to talk about his teammates. He is the definition of team player.
I, too was impressed by Hamilton's heartfelt interview as it seemed more real than many given by players in the same situation, especially the way he only wanted to talk about teammates.
I just reread Josh's book "Beyond Belief" before mailing to my dad to read. What a story! From about as high as you can get as a #1 draft pick out of HS and then falling to about as low as possible with his addictions. We know the story now - and it is amazing to see him play baseball after being out of the game for three years before going to Cincy and now Texas. That is just how good he is as a ball player! What a humble, grateful, talented player. I sure hope Texas wins the World Series!
