We have been told D1. His coach does not make calls for him, but I sure he would if we asked. We did start using FieldLevel. We plan on going to some camps this summer.
We live in So Cal. Younger son went to 1 juco frosh year. Coach yelled and cursed at all but a few favorite players. Would promise play time or a start the following day then not play at all next day. Transfered to another juco for soph year. (5 transfers from other jucos for same catcher position ) Son said much better. Coach yelled at everyone. No favorites. Play time was earned. Produce or someone else will go in. Neither coach interacted with parents. We did not attempt either.
Here's an example of what I was talking about. Kirkwood has 15 position players with 25 At Bats or more. Granted 25 At Bats over the course of a season is not a lot, but it is better than 0!
It has been said before juco is not for everyone. High rosters weeding players out. Coaches have very little allegence to players. Players come and go every year. New team every year. Players all jocky for play time to get seen to go on to a four year or the draft etc.
But with that being said for some who are willing they can be the best option. Players who are late bloomers, work on academics, save money, improve on skills, few or not the right fit 4 years out of HS, players needing a second chance etc.
Despite the trials and tribulations it was the right choice for my younger son.
