Attempting to go from a JUCO to an DII school....got this reply.....

"NCAA exempts academic money at 3.3 gpa or higher. Though ****** gives out academic at 3.0 it is all countable towards a baseball scholarship plus whatever we actually give from baseball so it hits us twice. For first base position, I am looking for exempt players."

Can somebody tell me what this means?? Does it apply to all players going to a 4 year school?

It means that according to section 15.02.4.3 “Exempted Institutional Financial Aid” of the Division II Manual: if your son transfers in from another college (JUCO or other) that if they do not have a GPA over 3.3, then all of the academic aid they receive gets added to the baseball aid in calculating how much of the 9.0 scholarships that the DII school coach has to give out to all his players.

You can download the DII manual here:

It sounds like this school awards some academic aid to incoming transfers with at least a 3.0 GPA.

What he is saying is that for the 1st base position, he wants to get a player that can get academic aid, and have a GPA over 3.3, so that the aid will be exempt from counting against his 9.0 scholarships.

I am sure that 3fingeredglove can give a much better explanation.
thanks for the replies and the explanation. Pretty high standard of 3.3.....the things we find out after it's too late!! Ugh.

I know why they do it, and I think I understand. But it sure screws a kid with just enough talent to play that gets decent grades. I thought that 3.15 was doing ok considering his JUCO schedule.

Oh well, live and learn......

Thanks folks!!
