One of my HS seniors has been contacted by several D1 JUCO coaches from out of state (across the country actually). The coaches said that they wanted my LHP/INF to visit and "workout".

Does anyone have any experience with working out with several different JUCOs? Since the travel time would be great, would it be feasible to schedule a road trip and workout for say 5 different schools on 5 consecutive days or would that be too much? (I'm concerned about him throwing too many bullpens on consecutive days)

About how many pitches per workout can he expect?

Any info would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

There are alot of Jucos that offer alot of scholarships. My son plays in a league in Texas and there are quite a few NJ and NY players in it.

That said, it sounds like this interest may very well be "word of mouth" but obviously a good reference. I'd call and try and gauge their interest. Most coaches will undertand traveling across country just to "try out" is pretty expensive.

I'd ask them what their parameters were for his performance and see who's really interested in making an offer. If they say 85 command etc. you'll know if he has it.

If these guys have seen him pitch and still want a "workout" that's not so good.

It's pretty expensive but I would assume the JC is covering the tab. They couldn't expect someone to be able to afford a road-trip like that. They are allowed 5 paid visits in D1...not sure about Juco's. Also, you should always anticipate that the coaches from a particular school are going to want to see all his offerings....so he needs rest in-between workouts for sure. Kids have hurt their arms doing too many consecutive workouts. Good luck to this fine player and I hope it works out for him. Many Juco's are fine scholastic institutions.

Also, to TRhit:
I was trying to link to your showcase questions and answer section on this site and both links are bad. Could you see if someone could possibly fix them, I would really like to read them.... THANKS!

Thanks for the info guys. I also spoke at length with Tom (thanks again) yesterday regarding a northeast player not being in game shape at this time of the year, and after speaking with the player's parents I think that they will pick the top 2 colleges and make it a few day trip (they're driving)- which should give the kid plenty of rest between workouts.

Not that it matters but I noticed that in my original post he was a LHP/INF, he's actually a RHP/MIF (I had LHP's on my mind I guess).

A call to the coaches told us that they were interested in seeing "all his tools and at least throwing a short bullpen" as he is foremost a pitcher. I got the impression that he would be practicing with the team during the visit and spending some time with the players touring the campus and doing dinner.
