The recruiting process is different, but no less competitive. Many JUCO's offer scholarships, many are 100% Scholarships which include off campus housing and a food allowance.
NJCAA JUCO's offer 50% Scholarships and 100% Scholarships. Generally the primary difference being 50% is Tuition only, and 100% is Tuition and Housing.
CA JCs are not part of NJCAA and have there own rules and do not offer scholarships.
Just as in the NCAA, the NJCAA has programs at the Div. I and II levels. Div. I JUCO's are allowed to provide room and board in their scholarships, whereas Div. II JUCO's don't provide room and board.
If a D1 Juco is a non-residential college, can they provide room and board off-campus?
Not in AZ. I don't know if it is a universal rule. Room and board is only offered if they have dorms.
Stafford,
All the JUCO's in Florida that are NJCAA D1 and all provide the availability of off site housing. Some are more organized than others. Hillsborough, Manatee, Central Florida, Santa Fe, St. Petersburg, Daytona, Indian River all have well organized and relative quality housing. Hillsborough is excellent
FloridaFan, you have an opinion on Pensacola State College? We have a player on my son's Summer team who committed to go there. We are from Texas so I thought it was unusual to travel that far for a JC. Are they a feeder school for someone?
Most of the bigger Florida JUCO's will feed into quality programs if the player is a quality player. Scout days at Florida JUCO's are very well attended. I do not know much about Pensacola State, since that is so very far away! I bet they feed programs in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama though. I would expect that University of West Florida, a strong D2 pays attention to what happens over there.
Sorry that I do not know more about that program however.
Thanks, was just curious.
FF is correct, but you can expand the reach to Georgia as well, with Alabama and Florida schools in the vast majority. As with many JUCO's, their roster also reflects a regional flavor....only three players from the 2014 team are from oustide Alabama/Florida. They're currently experiencing a down year in a tough conference.

I can only off the following on Pensacola. The pitching coach was in constant contact with my son prior to Jupiter last fall. Told my son he was making it a priority to see him and introduce himself to the parents. Was also setting up a visit. Come Jupiter we were there, looking for the coach, who had sent a text to my son that he was there, but he was a no show and took two weeks to respond to my sons texts/calls. Immediately removed from our list
In Texas they can offer 0-100% including housing and meals on or off campus.
