Does anyone know if there is a limit on the number of Letters of Intent a JUCO coach can give out? The coach of the community college where my son may play told us that he was limited to the number of LOIs he could give. He has offered my son a spot on the team, but we would feel more secure if a LOI was included. It is a community college and scholarship funds are limited so the money is not the issue.

Any information would be helpful.

Thanks

alh,
This link tells us that there is a limit on the number of LOIs that a NJCAA school may offer. Contrary to NCAA practice, a player may sign a LOI without receiving any athletic aid, but it still counts against the number of LOIs issued.

I haven't seen a NJCAA LOI, but I question the value to the player if he signs a LOI without athletic aid being offered. Presumably the LOI does not assure the player of a position on the roster or playing time. But it does bind the player to that JC.
