I am new to this and need some advice. First a little bragging. Varsity Catcher, a Senior this year. 1.85 to second. .543 batting average last year. fast, great arm. He is limited though to a junior college due to being place in tech prep instead of college prep. I was dissapointed at first but from what I read and heard I don't think this is a bad thing now...so anybody correct me if Im wrong I want to make sure I understand this. He is being looked at by a NCJAA Division I school. I have been told that you can recieve a full scholarship including room and board where 4 year colleges it is harder to get such a scholarship. That pro scouts like to recruit out of these colleges such as chipola, ect. And this college has had many of the boys go pro. That is my sons dream. any comments on all of this? The college that wants him is a championship winning school, really good. I have been told that as far as colleges go we will not do any better...which is exciting. His coach was contacted about my son the first week of school. Is this a good thing, or do they contact everyone? The coach told us that they wanted him. His summer league coach from a few years back is transferring there to be assistant coach and my son got a call from him too saying that the school needed a catcher and they thought he was the man for the job. We did not know he was going to be the coach at this time. He is to visit the school in a week. What do we expect now? I am so scared that they will change their mind or something and dissapoint my son. If they do want them will they ask him to give a verbal agreement or something? When can they really sign him? sorry about so many questions I just want to know about this and hope some of you know the answers. Also one more thing. If my son does agree to sign...if he is picked up by a pro team can he go? Im not giving up on that possibility. Any advice or comment will be appreciated. Georgiamom.

It's not over 'til it's over, but this sounds pretty much like a done deal. Congratulations to your son on his accomplishments and in attracting a terrific program's interest!

At some point, they will ask for a verbal commitment. I believe junior college recruits sign in January, but I may be wrong on that.

If he does sign, he can still be drafted out of high school.

Let us know how things go after his visit this week!
Is this a Panhandle Conference JuCo (as you mention Chipola)? That's a very competitive conference.

Your son's situation sounds great, I would only add one thing about keeping all of your options open. Consider what schools your son might want to attend after JuCo (a lot os SE D1's recruit in that neighborhood as well) and make sure the classes your son takes will transfer which will both make the most of the better financial situation in the JuCo and keep him academically eligible for a D1.

Your son will be eligible for the draft every year. If he's drafted high enough and/or happy with what he's offered, the idea of going on to a D1 might not be an issue. But if his stock is climbing, he may want to continue on. It's always a good idea to have a plan.

Best of luck and welcome to the hsbbweb!
Many play ball. A very small percentage sign with the pros.

Please make sure that the academics at the JUCO will be good for your son. As Orlando pointed out, make sure they will transfer. And further, that they will be beneficial to your son's education.

Yes, things can change. And coaches can change their minds. Keep all options open as long as possible.
plash3, I've been looking on the web for a date and came up with the following site. A date is mentioned in the top paragraph, but I'm not sure exactly what it means. Hopefully, someone out there can offer further assistance.

Here's a link that may answer certain questions about the junior college NLI:
