What is the number of kids usually invited to one of these events? Is it like a camp invitation or have the Coaches seen the player play somewhere? If you can't go, would it be appropriate to send your High School schedule along with your regerets? What else could you say to the Coach/Recruiter? Is it appropriate to ask him where he saw you play? Thanks in advance!

The Junior Day my son attended last May had about 50 players. The recruiting coordinator said it was the largest group the school had had in years. He mentioned that he had narrowed his list of recruits down to "only" 200. I am not sure if they invited all 200 to the Junior Day or not.

I noticed that the coaches knew several prospects personally and joked with them during the day. They did not know all of the prospects, however. Right before lunch, the recruiting coordinator formed a type of "receiving line" and asked each student to introduce himself, say what school he attended, and say what select team he played for. It was obvious that he knew of a lot of players, but had not seen them play yet.

Try to go to the Junior Day if you can, but if it's not possible, by all means send your regrets to the recruiting coordinator, along with your spring schedule. However, don't be surprised if the coaches do not see you play this spring, as they will be busy with their own season. Make sure to send them your summer schedule. That is when they will most likely come to see you play.

Feel free to ask the recruiting coordinator where he saw you play. Best wishes!
My son atended a junior day this last fall. It was very nicely done, the boys got to go to a football game the night before. The field was beautiful. They gave the kids nice shirts, hats a great lunch. I think we payed under 100 for the camp. The coaches gave individual feedback by email if the players wanted. There were about 50 kids at the one my son went to. We thought it was a great exp.My son really enjoyed it and the coaches tried to introduce and make a point of contact with each player.
The "junior day" fanofgame describes is different than the Junior Day events many D1 programs put on. There is no fee to attend, although recruits and their parents are required to pay for their own lunch. I believe NCAA regulations prohibit free giveaways like shirts and hats. Recruits are not allowed to play or practice while there. The Junior Day my son attended started off with about a one-hour talk by the recruiting coordinator followed by a nice tour of the campus, catered BBQ lunch, and free tickets to see the baseball team play that afternoon.

Yes! This was what he was invited to. Thanks for responding. We're new to the recruiting process.
The number of recruits invited can vary tremendously from school to school. We attended one where there were 200 players. It was more like a recruiting promotion for the school. At the other west coast schools there were about anywhere from 25-40 players present. From our experiences it was a full day event, starting with the head coach addressing the players and parents, the athletic director speaking, a campus tour, and a game. Questions are answered by the staff and gives the families a chance to evaluate the school and coaching staff. It is well worth your effort to attend even if it may not be your top choice at this point.
