My 2017 received a Junior Day invite to the Ivy school that has been in contact with him the most since last Summer.  Transcripts and grades are within the range, so we booked the flight and hotel from the west coast.  We are very excited, as this is probably his top school on the list at this point.  Do Junior Day invites mean you are on a short list or would we expect that many others have received the same invite but this may be a way of gauging interest of the student athlete?

It is early for most in the Ivy, but a couple of schools already have multiple 2017 commits.  Not sure which school you are referring to, but it likely means something slightly different school to school.  Ultimately, I wouldn't worry much about the length of the list and hope for the best.  If they keep talking to him, they're still interested.

SWV: Son went to two junior days, one of which I believe is the school you are referencing. The school will ask for updated transcript and whether you have your spring and/or summer baseball schedule handy. It's a good sign if several coaches recognize son when you are there.

You asked about numbers. There were about 65-75 recruits at each junior day. My son recognized several of the recruits (who were also focusing on Ivies) from different showcases. My son made the comment that there were probably several players who school is heavily recruiting that couldn't make the trip. Factor in that there are only certain spots(positions) for each school, and its pretty competitive.

A junior day visit can be beneficial for the recruit who is given time to meet and talk with coaches (learn and discuss their philosophies) and players, get a tour of school and facilities, take in a quick snack and catch a sporting event with team (hoops or hockey). On the downside, any academic piece-curriculum/admissions/financial aid won't be part of it as junior days usually fall on a weekend. You could get those questions answered though if you are there for part of a M-F day when offices are open. Coming from the West coast, that may be worthwhile.

You may have seen from other posts, dress casual (polo and kahkis, though some had ties) and don't wear a baseball cap (sounds odd that it's a baseball event). Comfortable shoes though, as there will be walking. Good luck!

Did most of the current junior's receiving a Junior Day invite go to individual Ivy camps (Summer or Fall),or HF-Showball in the summer prior to entering junior year?  I'm sure email/video correspondence could solicit Junior Day invite as well.

How do you guys think your player received a Junior Day invite?

My 2017 was seen and contacted during and after Stanford All Star1.  We are west coast, so at this point we have not done any Ivy camps.  2017 has also been to Junior Fall Classic and their all academic game tryouts with Ivy schools in attendance at games.  Contact has been maintained with follow up transcripts, video, recruit questionaire, HS coach mail evaluation and dialogue w travel coach.

When son received his junior day invites, it was largely due to his initial interest and reciprocated interest from school. Though he attended Ivy specific camps, he did not go any school camps at the schools that invited him to Junior days. Junior Days schools saw him at showcases and were kept abreast with his baseball happenings, grades and board scores through e-mail.

My 2017, similar to above, has had contact with most Ivy schools, starting at Stanford All Star 1 last summer.  No Ivy camps, but one unofficial visit.  Some also saw him over the summer at WWBA and then at HF NY in August.  He had recent good news re test scores and has communicated that to the coaches he is in touch with for the high academic schools.

This particular invite came from a school that has seen him at Stanford (and they saw him pitch there at his game he started), Headfirst and possibly WWBA though not sure they saw him there.  They had also had a HS coach evaluation and his transcripts already, plus a PSAT score.

I think mine got the invite because he seems to be on their (long) list of academically viable candidates.  I think they wait till they know you are viable before doing more than inviting you to their moneymaking camp, but that's just my opinion.
