Just a funny story to share

Sounds like he kicked the ball, but not the call.

That is an unusual game and I assure you the umpire got razed for quite a while by his cohorts.
I got hit in the foot 25 yrs ago in my second varsity game. Not a great way to break into a new level. The only good part was I enforced it correctly and my extremely experienced partner backed me up when questioned.

Although I have never been hit (yet..as I get older and slower, who knows?)....I have been in a semi similar situation.......and endured the razing of my brothers in blue.......and a Nickname that took years to die....

I am the BU in the C postion...bases loaded.....the runner on third loudly starts down the base path...I glance at the runner as I hear the ping of the bat....look back to see the baseball heading right for my melon.....

The only way to get out of the way is to fall down on my back....which by virtue of a wet field was accomplished embarassingly easily......

I attempted to recover, yet due to the wet grass, all I can do is struggle to one knee to call the first out at second and call the second half of the DP at first on both knees.....

My Partner at home is giggling his butt off......and said I looked just like a turtle out there on my back......

I had a very experienced partner forget to go to second when I went out on a trouble ball. He broke late and tried to go straight over the mound, never a good idea, tripped and did a somersault, came up to a knee and made the call at second. Absolutely classic. He always stresses in clinics not to go over the mound.
