There is more here than baseball obviously. I contend that some our country's best writers are right here on the hsbbweb. The contentious threads are sometimes the most interesting. We have had topics that were split 50/50 where some that normally see things in similar manner wind up on opposite sides of the fence. It's all good.

I think the reason has something to do with the seriousness of the Mitchel report. Henry Kissinger once said that university politics is so vicious because there is so little at stake. Serious subjects bring serious discussions and personal attacks take a back seat. And of course serious discussions provide the lunatic fringe with some down time.

There are a lot of great discussions on the site lately, and a lot of posts that make me think "I wish I had said that", or more often "I wish I knew as much about baseball as that member"!

I have to disagree slightly with itsinthegame on this quote though: "IMO - Julie - you are doing a fantastic job!". Well okay, I don't mind the compliment, but I would have to give the vast majority of the credit to our moderators and to ALL of our members who make this site so interesting, and new every day.

We've said this before, but it bears repeating:

New members and "older" members, this site would be lost without you! Without questions, the main purpose of this site would become lost. Without credible, caring answers from long-time members who have been through it already...well, I guess we'd just have a bunch of questions.

Maybe we should start up a "Posters Showcase" .... you know we could encourage other bloggers from all over the country from all walks of life(politics, cooking, manhole cover manufacturing) to come and learn from us. We'd evaluate them, and then sign them up for more showcases.

..... ah forget it... all the good posters are either going to end up coming from Latin America or Asia.. or they will be using Poster Enhancing Drugs...
