The mid 80's was cruising speed. Tufts needs pitching. In all three Trinity-Tufts games, Trinity buried Tufts once they got into the bullpen. I saw several pen pitchers throwing low 80's.

I was at an Atlantic Ten game Sunday. Both teams were middle of the pack. Both starters appeared to be cruising about mid 80's. To see if my visual radar was correct I asked a scout. I asked him what speed a typical A10 pitcher throws once past the Friday (#1) studs. He said 85, 86 cruising speed is typical. A player's dad told me the A10 is ranked 19th of 29(?) D1 conferences.

Thanks...question was for original poster, but you gave me the info I was looking for. I asked because Tufts is one of three NESCAC schools my son has looked at, so it's good to hear as much about that school and conference as possible. He is a HS junior now who maxes out about 85, but probably is low 80's most of the time. He was late maturing and still growing, so he's hoping for another couple miles an hour by senior year, which he's hoping will get him onto a good academic DIII school team if he has the movement and command to go along with it. Thanks again, and also, to fen1der, good luck to your son at Tufts.
