I had the chance to listen to a recent pregame interview with ED and also had the pleasure of meeting him just after the CWS and before he left for Eugene.
The first thing you realize about ED is that he is just a very, very nice young man.
The second thing you recognize is he is very insightful and has presence, commanding presence.
Then you notice he is humble, the ultimate team guy, and very much unaffected by success.
My guess is that ED is one of those who burns to compete and succeed internally and is in total control of those feelings externally...just like Mom and Dad. Big Grin
After watching him pitch this year, his success isn't overly surprising. He has always loved to use the inside part of the plate. Against metal, opponents got a tremendous number of cheapies. That won't happen against wood.
The other thing that makes me feel he has a tremendously bright future is his change up. When you are behind home plate, a hitter cannot tell the difference between his fastball and change. Same arm action, same arm speed, same release point. They look exactly the same, except for the 15 or so mph difference. That ability to change speeds with the exact same motion is the recipe for success in my view.
This is fun!!!!
