I'm sure many have heard by now but I encourage you to keep an eye and an ear on your players. They go through a lot. One of our players went through a tough situation and I don't think his family would mind me saying since Troy Eklund from ESPN decided to make it a lot bigger issue than it was nationally by putting a lie out there. One of our players, 5th year starter, who has been a vital part of our team had some struggles on Thursday night and Friday morning. He was facing a lot of stress and anxiety and it got too heavy. Glad to say he reached out and got help. He was not at our game on Friday night in the CWS Regional and many started guessing as to why. ESPN reported that he had failed a PED test and that our entire team was being tested. The real case was he was a college student who had a lot on his plate. Pro draft, changing positions for team, life issues, and probably more. He did the right thing and sought help. I say all this to remind you and me to keep an eye on our guys, and gals. They are faced with so much and we have to be able to say to them if you ever feel overwhelmed, please let me know. I love you more than you could ever imagine. I cannot imagine what it was like for his parents, friends of ours, to get that phone call, but at least that was the phone call. Mental health is a big issue in sports today and there is very little being done. Rant over. Love your kids and hug them tight.

What ESPN did is a sad example of what news has become. It’s become more important to be the first source to get the clicks (to sell advertising) rather than taking the time to investigate and get the story right.
Unconscionable that they went with a story without anything close to the facts. I am glad to hear he sought help and I keep all these kids in my prayers. You can never take happy and healthy (and contributing to the world) for granted. Everything else is gravy.

you have reported a very serious problem in the pursuit of goals prescribed by parents, coaches and media.
with 35 years of Area Code games and our Intl Goodwill Series, I can recall only a few players in need of a professional Dr. their backgrounds were consistent.

my recommendation is for College Coaches to consult with the school Social Psych Dept. to become alerted to his players concerns. Learn to recognize the “red flags”.
The pressure to win should not rule. Teach a player to be a MVP in life.
