Don't know. Only saw FM once this spring. But I did see Keller a whole bunch.

KG.....no doubt, 8-5A has been a very good baseball district this year with FM,Marcus,and Allen....but are you not giving SLC any respect either as a team?....just curious where your jabs are going?

I believe KG's comment/thread is based on an ongoing conversation/jabs that KG and KD have had all season regarding Keller Baseball.

Nope, won't say it. I just think there were some bad coaching decisions that came back to haunt the boys.

Why would you bring Ward cold off of Third base when he hasn't closed a game all year? And when you planned on using him for your 3rd game starter?

Or for that fact, why not start him in the second game and go for their throat?

And the biggest thing, and this may go to your underachievers statement, is they left WAY too many runners on base.

This team wasn't picked to even win their district, or by some, even to move on to the playoffs. They weren't ever in anyone's top 25 teams in the state. Heck, they only picked 4 kids off this team for all district because of the politics of the situation here.

But somehow they tied to win the district, and they took 3 games to get eliminated.

Hey, Marcus played two good games, even though thier coach nearly bit off more than he could chew when he decided to go after one of the Keller players in our dugout. What an idiot.

Stafford will be a Junior next year, and Asbell and Sowell will compete for the number two spot. Kreder and Edwards will do nothing but get better between now and next year and you have only 4 seniors graduating to replace and a huge amount of talent fighting for those 4 spots.

All in all, I think next year is the year.

KDad.....I tnink you are right about the Keller team next year except about Edwards getting better.....he has exceptional talent,no doubt...but he really comes across as not a very hard worker....maybe a 'too cool' attitude...or something like that....I'm just not sure he will get any better than what he already is unless someone straightens him out.....what do you think about him....do you think I'm off base about him?

I'm with Ken. This kid is the epitomy of "Good Kid" and a kid that works very very very hard, even though he has been blessed with a truck load of talent and size.

The too cool attitude you might see is probably shyness. He isn't the most outgoing kid in the world, at least not outside his comfort zone.

One day, I will sit at either The Ballpark in Arlington or at Houston and watch this kid play major league ball. That's my opinion.

good input...I don't know him personally so I can only go by what it looks like out on the field....I'm glad to know that....he does have exceptional baseball talent....I have heard that his coaches have viewed him as one who is difficult to coach......maybe that comes from who he is surrounded by ???

One more thing about all-district picks...coaches can not vote for their own players.

Not kidding- that is how its done- you cannot vote for your own player-there is little selling of your player- everyone looks at the stats and what the kid did vs them and votes-the voting may be strange, but as far as politics, I dont see where that comes into play-

This is just like any "all star team", some get in that should not and some don't that should.

I am a coach and I can say in 20+ years of these meetings, that has never happened-Now I know parents will not believe this but it is the truth-Any coach who tried this would lose all respect from his peers- all dist picks are voted on by stats and what the player did vs your team and the impressions you form as you play them

Although I will agree that some dont get on the 1st team who should at times, but if they fare poorly against a couple of other teams, then maybe those guys dont vote for him, you cant vote for him and sudenly another kid is 1st team

I wonder how the DISD coaches pick between so many .600 hitters! And how does a group of coaches choose between 3-4 0.00 ERA pitchers -- like the Marcus kids this year? <-- teasing folks, no need to fire back

I agree that we, as parents, do speculate a lot about the selection process. It sounds like your district is fairly straightfoward, simp1. Perhaps that is the norm rather than the exception. I think the process has flexibility but, at times, it appears to be political. Having said that, there is no perfect process -- and certainly some deserving players are left off 1st teams or whatever.

Just to clarify, in case parents are relating all-district selections and opportunities at the next level.

Baseball minds won't be concerned if a player made an all-district team or not. Highly over rated achievement in my opinion although I can see how it would be important to a high school players self esteem and social status.

It was explained to me several years ago that the all-district selection is based on district stats only. For teams in a 6 team district, that means their recognition is based on less than 40% of their season. I guess this is okay since success is based on district and post season performance instead of the early season tournaments anyway.

I agree, Ken. Mosts lists are not even published, other than in the home-town rags. But, it is an honor to be selected, like All-Area or All-State. The strange thing is...the district teams may have more knowlegeable voters, i.e., coaches with first-hand insight, than the more prestigious awards.

Being acknowleded for good play is fine, but the recruiting aspect is minimal. It is nice to be able to put it in a letter being sent to a coach, but like hs stats, it doesn't mean a lot. Still doesn't hurt the recruiting process either. The more stuff one has in their resume, the closer one would tend to look at the letter. That doesn't get anybody the scholarship, but it may peak some interest enough to send information back or take a look if they are at a showcase or tourny where the kid is playing. That is all anybody really wants. There are many all-district players whose career ends after hs is over.

Doug--You may get your wish at Keller. One coach is out and the other may go to DBU. Good baseball guy in their football program at Keller. McCurly would be a good one also. Not much support at CHHS.

rumor on the streets is that The Colony coach is gone ...... dismal season for them ..... wonder how their JV did? any up & coming players out that way?

Isn't this his first year???????? And thier JV didn't fare much better than their varsity.

The Colony Coach is going into the Corp. World and I believe that was a decision he made months ago.

No rumor. He was out at least by mid season maybe earlier. There are about 3 guys who are in the running for the job. Their names have not been given. JV was not real strong. Maybe 2 or 3 kids who could play.

I can't put my finger on it, but it's just different in The Colony than with any other LISD school. It's hard to feel much community pride in the athletic programs. Can anyone else put a finger on what gives there?

the few families I know residing in The Colony home school their kids and seem to care less about athletics ...... that doesn't make us bad people, does it??

Oh no not bad people. I'm all for home shoolers. What you say makes a lot of sense as to why the community pride in their athletics is not what it is say at LHS, FM, Marcus or even Hebron. It's almost like The Colony is a town where people go in transition and do not live there all of their lives. It's just something I've noticed and not a knock on them. Hope I did not offend.
