"It has been nothing but a pleasure to work with him," said Dishman. "I keep telling everybody, 'If I ever had a kid, that is who I would want him to be like.'
"He has been the consummate professional in everything he does and how he handles himself," added Dishman.(Great Lakes Loons' Pitching Coach on Kershaw)

Impressive observation. Congrats to CK and family!

Former Detroit Tiger great -- was he still around in their most recent World Series victory over San Diego -- the Kurt Gibson IBB/HR series? I think he was.....

Parrish was the starting catcher in that Game 5 win in Detroit, and he actually hit a solo HR in that game that got out quickly to left. But you have to be a real geeky Tigers fan - like me - to remember that. Most people only remember the second of Gibby's two HR that day - the shot off Goose Gossage who tried to blow a fastball by him.

Do you remember Bob Gibson's performance against the eventual WS Champs in '68? If I recall, Norm Cash went to the batter's box with a table leg. Cool

17 K's in that Game 1!!! I was too young to understand the significance of it, but I remember the teacher rolling out the black and white TV set so our class could watch some of it.

The next time they rolled out that set was for the moon landing the next year. Just didn't seem to have the same drama to me as the World Series. But I was young. . .
