Yes, Slowey had missed his previous start due to a sore elbow.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire (affectionately known to players and fans as Gardy) started his usual post-game interview by saying something like this:

"First, I want to tell everyone: I would have booed me, too!" (for taking Slowey out).

But he went on to explain that because of the very recent soreness/ injury, they thought they could risk not only Slowey's season, but his career by letting him keep going much beyond 100. Gardy also said that Joe Mauer (catcher) told him he could tell Slowey was getting tired, because some of his pitches were getting up in the zone.

Fantastic job by Slowey, but I think it was also a good coaching decision for the long term.
