While looking for other information I came across these numbers some may find interesting. I'm going to try to find similar data for the Carribean.

55% of Venezuelan children between the ages of 7 and 11 years old said that they liked to play baseball, compared to just 12% in the other 17 Latin American countries.  When asked if they liked to watch baseball on television, 61% of Venezuelan kids said yes, compared to 12% in the other 17 Latin American countries.

It could be a little missleading because brasil, Chile, Argentina, peru... are also latin america (actually the vast majority of it) and nobody plays baseball there (except a few Japanese-Brazilians).

It think if you ask kids in the DR, PR, cuba the numbers are not that different from Venezuela (also I also read that soccer grows very fast in the DR and PR)
