I've managed probably 10 athletes with the condition. All but one opted for rehabilitation first. There were a few that had another dislocation (including the one that had surgery). The ones that did rehab first, probably about a 50/50 split between doing rehab again or opting for surgery when they had their second dislocation.

There's no strong guarantee that surgery will prevent another dislocation. But if it were me I'd probably get the surgery after it dislocated a second time, but that's just how I would feel if that happened to me.

Surgery would most likely fall in that 5-10 month range for return to sport.
