i know this is a fed site but after reading the "appealing a missed base" in the league with the pitching machine thread,i thought you would enjoy reading this one. in 1968 i helped my mom coach a t-ball team. the rules were on a couple sheets of 8x11 pieces of paper.there was no limit to defensive conferences as the league was instructional. the job of the pitcher was to make the pitching motion and then the batter could swing at the ball. we had a kid(probably around 20 yrs of age) who had never umpired t-ball handling the game. i had just finished my second defensive conference of the inning at the pitcher's mound and turn around to find the ump there. he asks me where my new pitcher is? i ask him what he is talking about. he replies we are playing major league rules and i have made two trips to the mound so i must relace my pitcher. my mom yells from the dugout asking what the ump wants. when she hears my reply, she picks up a copy of the rules for the league and heads for the ump.to make a long story short, mom gets tossed and the ump yells play ball. we continue the game and the ump did not make me change the pitcher.

seems mom didnt know about one of the cardinal rules....never bring out the rule book onto the field..... Big Grin

But seriously.........to avoid this sort of thing, you need to bring these things up to the umpires in the pregame plate meeting....

When I do summer ball for a new league, the last thing I ask the coaches are is "there anything you want me to know?........special rules, emphasis??... reason being is that many leagues institute league specific rules and procedures that may not coincide with official rules...(eg: removal of pitcher)..........I dont want this happening to me...

Informing the Jr umpire in this case would have avoided the issue.
