RFF, Congrats to your son! That has to be very exciting for your family. And, you're right, PG and his staff are first class.
For your info, however, be aware that any Div. I coaches that were speaking to you or your son in person at the showcase were violating the NCAA recruiting rules because they're not permitted to speak to him in person at any site away from their campus until July 1 (since he's a 2015). Does it happen frequently at events like that? Sure it does, I'm not naïve. But, here's something to think about. If they're ignoring the NCAA rules now, how do they handle things when your son is going to school there?
In the big picture of running a Div. I college program, is one brief contact at a showcase event like that a big deal? Probably not, but if they're doing it there, they're probably doing it at many other showcases all summer long. There are obviously many factors to consider when choosing a college, but just include this among those factors.
Yeah....its illegal, they'll just DM your son via Twitter like the coaches did with my son. It's technically not a text message.
Effective 08/01 (I think), there were some changes in the rules about text messages, etc. But before that, you are correct, text messages were not allowed but "some" other types of communication were allowed
(my son initiated the phone calls with the D1 coaches back in June)
Son signed his NLI yesterday with Mississippi State. In his mind, he's been a Bulldawg since the day he contacted the coaches back in July. Yesterday only confirmed it in writing. 12 months ago, I was not sure where his baseball path would lead. The last 6 months have been amazing, not without many worries and concerns (and new worries and concerns continue to pop up) but my family is feeling very blessed. While my son has some talent, there has been many coaches, friends, friends' parents & grandparents, website posters (you know who you are) that have been extremely helpful in getting him to this step. Thank you from my son & us. I will try to return the favor in small way anytime that I can.
Congrats!!!!
Congrats and Hail State! Their fans are enthusiastic to say the very least. I got to watch them play last June and was very impressed.
Nice job!
Congratulations to your son & family. Needless to say many of us here on the forum know the benefits of attending a PG event. For some it is a good benchmark against quality competition. Others it is a reality check that can help them decide to work harder to catch up. Still for others it is a spring board to get on college scouts radars as is the case with your son. We really enjoy reading stories like this because we know what you are going through and how happy your son is.
Anytime a father approaches me to ask what is the best course of action for their son, I recommend a PG event for all the aforementioned reasons. They are one of the best places to help your son get exposure, and are always professionally run. Needless to say, knowing what you know now, I'd bet you would have driven twice as far to get to that event.
RedFish, i wish your son the absolute best, Coach Thompson is an incredible pitching coach. Hope your son keeps that ball below the string in drills and in his games.

Neat video....we've seen some on our visit. He will definitely be "pitching to the string".
