Texan,

I can attest to the fact that pro ball is a little tougher than high school.

I struck out 196 batters my senior year, went 15-3 with an ERA below 1.

First year of pro ball, rookie level.....

2-5 with an ERA over 5.5 with not many strikeouts. It's a whole different ballgame for sure!

Nerves weren't much of an issue after the first couple of times out. Being a high draft choice though brought out many more higher ups than normal, so it was a little nerve-racking sp? for a while. But it's really not the nerves, just the fact that you're competing against the very best college players with a few HS players mixed in.
I just wish he had a better attitude...

Did anyone see the state championship game???

he never got in the ready position once when he was playing ss. and he made 2 errors in the 5th or 6th and the coach went to visit the mound and he was the only infielder that did not join the conference at the mound....

There is no doubt he is a stud but he needs to be a little more receptive to his team and not so selfish..

I have never met him so these assumptions are just what they are "assumptions" But I could not overlook the display that he put on during that game. It really made me disgusted.

I hope he can change his actions and be a major leaguer one day. He is only a teenager so he probably has some maturing to do.......

Just an opinion only nothing more

OP, just to be clear. I was trying to make the point that it was way too early to be writing a kid off. And that struggling some with each jump is not unusual.

I think you understood, but wanted to be sure.

Texan,

I wasn't referring to what you said at all. I was just pointing out the fact the kids that have a good/great HS career or year will still struggle when the get to pro ball, in most cases of course. There is NO comparison of HS and pro baseball as we all know. In HS, you may face a kid or two per team that can play at D-1 or pro level and when you get to pro ball, you are playing against the VERY best kids from college mostly. Most kids are gonna struggle, no matter how good they are! That's all I was saying.

No doubt KD has a big future as crawdad said. I'm sure, unless an injury gets in his way, we'll be watching him on TV someday soon. He's definitely as stud.
ctiger - For someone that has not met him, you learned a lot about him during your one game observation.

He has always been like that and it drives me crazy too. Others with less talent would never have the playing time he has with the way he acts on the field. Now he will have to compete with others with equal talent that have better attitudes/game ready aggression on the field. Somewhere alone the line a coach is going to call him on his game attitude and he will learn to adjust or loose a spot until he "matures".

Good observation. He is a good kid with great talent though.
I will agree with ctiger. I watched The Woodlands play both games in RR and I was amazed at the attitude of the player we are discussing. If not for the bonehead play of running into the catcher in the Midland game, TWHS might not have gotten to the Championship game. While we at Katy were very happy to be there and respect TWHS very much, he almost cost them the game. We left 9 runners on base and a hit in the right situation could of won the game for us. I hope the kid makes it, but I have my doubts about his makeup and attitude. There is a valid reason he dropped to #18.
CTIGER, didn't he hit a 3 run HR in the 1st inning of that game? I remember seeing the coach call the 1b,2b and 3rd basemen as well as the catcher to the mound. I never saw him motion to Drabek?

62TIGER, did DRABEK run into the catcher? or was it a player for MIDLAND that ran into The Woodlands catcher? you sure you got that right?
Vance,

What I was saying was Midland had all of the momentum in that game until their player ran over Mickey. They were hitting KD all over the field. Watching his body language and reactions was surprising to me. He did hit a 3 run HR in the 1st inning of the Championship Game. Never said there was not some talent in this kid, just saw some things that make one wonder if he can handle the presures of Pro ball. Again, I am pulling for him!
After all the hype leading up to the draft, the scouts, the home visits, the state playoffs, signing, moving away from home for the first time, playing in Florida at noon with nobody watching, working out and running before the games, etc.... Give the very talented player a little slack. It is a tough adjustment. Did I mention that they play in 95 degree weather with 95% humidity? It takes time to adjust. Big Grin
