I know a little about the program and school as they are only about 10 minutes down the road from me. The school itself is a private school and everything I've heard is that a quality education can be had there albeit expensive since it is private. If your son can qualify for academic money there that would help tremendously.
Until the season before last, they were competing at the D3 level. The school made the decision to switch to D2 and add football to their schedule. They acquired a new baseball coach for the transistion to D2 and I believe they have had some moderate success. My son had several high school teammates go there and some were there when they transitioned to D2 two years ago. I believe they had positive experiences. I think they had a kid drafted in the 17th round this past year so they must be getting some exposure.
The big drawback about playing in this area is the weather. With Lake Erie, springs are often an extended winter because the lake is still very cold in the spring. We also get a ton of rain which is not good for baseball. If this were my son's only opportunity, I am sure he/we would have considered it but you might want to find some place where the climate is more suitable for baseball.
We do understand about the weather situation and son is considering other options as well. Just trying to cover all the bases!!
He's done a very nice job in improving the program. The drafted player is a P/SS who put up good numbers and also had success in College Summer League play. Coach was able to place him early in his career (sometimes difficult for northern non-DI's).
From interactions, I was impressed with coach and the progress made. He realizes the challenges of being a DII program, that came from almost nothing. In comparison to programs like Ashland or NKU...LEC isn't there, but they do schedule some good competition down south.
IMHO, it's worth a look. Not the strongest DII, but the coach is a guy I would have enjoyed playing for. May be possible to get on the field sooner at LEC than some other area DII's.
any updates on this program?
My son and several others kids he knows have been recruited by coach McGee. Son really liked the coach, and the players on the team he met.
They seem to recruit very large classes so be aware. They are now full members of the GLIAC.

The finished in the bottom half of the standings and finished 18-30 overall. Competing against Grand Valley state every year has to be tough. The Gliac has also welcomed some former NAIA schools over the last couple of years that are very strong historically, ODU and Malone. Coach McGee has his work cut out for him.
When my son visited the campus looked old and the class rooms needed some updating. They had added a new building to campus, The academics were not quite what he was looking for. He is a chemistry major and their program did not quite match up to other schools he was looking at. The financial aid dept was pretty easy to work with, just a little slow. Once the coach found out we were still waiting to hear back on some things they became much quicker to respond and work with us.
The were scheduling some tough non conference games when son was being recruited.
Their was no athletic aid package offered to my son so it that leveled the playing field for the D3's that were recruiting him also compared to this D2.
In the end, he really liked the coach, but the academics and weather pushed him in another direction.
