Cap'n

With all the tornadic activity and rain lately, it's difficult to get anything done. The Dodgers are here, but are all headed toward Miami this weekend. I cancelled my "planned" lesson coming up, so don't count on clip this week, maybe next week. Haven't forgotten about you, sorry to hear about the knee Frown...peace shep

2 years ago I really began to be a pitcher for my hs team and landed on my heel or sometimes flat footed and dragged my back toe. After the varsity coach saw this he helped me with the toe drag and had a chair put next to me so i had to pick up my back leg but he never said anything about the feet. I went onto legion that summer and the legion coach didnt like me landing like that so he said "when you bring your kick knee up just let you foot dangle, forget it's there and you'll land on your toe." This did help me and now I have more accuracy and even some more velocity. I would encourage this method to any player that is having trouble with landing on thier heel.
I always try to gather different views from others. That’s why I’m interested in the crate drill/prop that you use. I’ve tried to imagine using it, but I can’t. I’m certainly not questioning which stride foot landing posture is “correct.”…toe to heel, heel to toe, flat. IMO, they all have their merit. The question remains, what do the postures/mechanics preceding solid foot plant look like...how was the posture attained.

And the jury is still out on your still photo of the National. He may very well land flat footed. And besides, to fully qualify the landing posture of the stride foot, a full all out throw is best to view. Mechanics are best studied at full effort.

So, I’m still interested in viewing the crate drill as taught by you.

Thanks,
Me personally I feel it is a matter of preference. I know Zumaya lands on his heel. No one is changing him since he is dialing it up at 100mph. I also know for a fact that Luke Hochevar lands on his heel first. I believe they tried to make him land on the ball of his foot for a while and guess what, his velocity dropped! Guess where Luke is landing on these days??? Yes he is back on his heel.

Really, it is a matter of preference and if you are succeeful on landing on your heel by all means go for it. You will run into coaches who will say , " my way or the highway". My take on the whole thing is if you are successful at it by all means stick with it!

Question:

Which is the proper landing of the left foot for a right-hand pitcher? Should the pitcher land on the ball of the left foot and pull or should the heel of the left foot land first? Pitching coach is trying to have pitchers land on the heel.

Royals-

Did your coach ever implement a plan for each pitcher on your team to switch to landing on the heel first?
