I wasn't sure where I wanted to post this but I knew you mom's would understand!!

Matt wasn't drafted this past week. His father and I were a little surprised after the season he had and the way things ended up for him. I can assure you he has took this much better than I ever thought he would.

This past weekend we went to a local legion game and a local scout that has known Matt since he was 9 talked to hubby and offered to get him on a roster of an independant team. (horay someone wants to help him) We called Matt and he said "Mom, Dad if I was suppose to play pro ball someone would have drafted me or called me as a free agent. It didn't happen and I'm ok with that, I had a great finish to my baseball career...what a way to go out. If I didn't have Whitney and our lives together ahead of me I would go..but I'm ready to move to the next part of my life and finish school(one semester)".
Wow was I proud at that moment. It is very hard to be DONE. But we do have a future daughter in law that is great and their future children to look forward to. They are coming to town to today to look at some sites for their wedding. On we move to the next step......
He is coaching this summer and working the camps at APSU. I guess we'll head down to see his team to get our fix.
Thanks everyone for all the support for all these yrs. It has been a great ride.
Good luck to all the players that are still hard at it and good luck to the ones that are just changing directions.

I read your post with open eyes and a soft heart.
We personally have not yet traveled to your part of path, but I will carry your words with me as we make our way along the great baseball road.
I can feel your emotions and only imagine what you are feeling. You are blessed to have a son who seems so ready to take on a new aspect of his life. Although it is a new time, a time of change, I have a feeling it will be a wonderful time!!
Once a baseball mom, always a baseball mom.
What could be better? .............

Perhaps, baseball Grandmother!! Big Grin Now that has a nice to ring to it, don't ya think???

Thank you for sharing with us,..and please dont go far,..those of us newbies still need your wealth of experience to help us along the way.

Lori you KNOW the games NEVER end! They just move into a different phase. Let me explain how it works. It goes --- T ball to Rec ball to travel ball to high school to college ball to assistant coach to instructor to dad of a T ball player to Dad of rec ball player to dad of travel ball --- you get the drift. I might add that you and Kenny have to make some adjustments too. You need to enjoy the “calm” before the storm. Big Grin

Lori, You know I've been thinking about you! Matt's a smart kid and sounds like he has things planned out well. Like Luke says, it's just another phase of his life... and of his baseball life. Baseball will continue to be a part of his life.... and of yours! Smile Besides, that's one of the perks of HSBBW... there's always some kid you know, playing ball somewhere, that needs more fans! So, you just let me know when you need directions to Campbellsville! Wink

Big Grin Big Grin I know --- Lori can be a HSBBW "roving" Mom.

You know it's been a long time since Matt and Josh played high school ball against each other but I remember it like it was yesterday. I guess you and I would still be talking baseball if my wife and your husband hadn't reminded us that we were the only ones left at the field. Big Grin

That is a fantastic idea! Lori can be the charter mom of this organization!

Lori, You thought you had nothing to do! Look, we're planning the next five years of your life here!!! Big Grin By then, you'll be ready for the grandma years and will have to pass the head roving mom torch to someone else.... well, perhaps!! Wink
You guys made me laugh Big Grin I need something to do...roving mom sounds good to me.
Luke I too remember that night it was soooooo cold but we had a great time talking baseball. I also remember seeing your son throw 92 in 32 degree weather just like it was mid May and 85. Charlotte came last spring to see Matt play and it seemed like I had known her forever. We talked about all the posters boys....She met Matts fiance and best friend. I think she got a little sunburn that day it was quite warm that day. Red Face

I just got in from spending the evening with Matt and Whit. They picked a place on the lake to get married next June 21st!!!He looked great and he told me at dinner he was asked to be an assit. at another HS next spring. The head coach is a former player at APSU that played some minor league ball. Matt seemed pumped. So off to TN we will go again just to see him in different role but still in a uni...

FO you are a man of few words but you know I listen when ya speak. lol

Shortstopmom I need those hugs thanks it nice to know that here on this site people understand what I'm feeling.

Thanks guys so much for cheering me up.... I sit here now and wish you guys were here so we could of course now I've got to find out the school colors for next spring and get my weekend attire planned out....

Pretty much a normal day at the ballpark for me Lori! I sat next to a lady that was all brown and tanned... just love that contrast. Roll Eyes Oh, wait a minute... that was you! Wink

Glad to hear things are continuing to progress so nicely for Whit and Matt! Smile
