My 17yo player woke-up one morning and decided he wanted to learn to switch hit. He looked akward at first but now, after a month, is beginning to look more natural. He has been hitting off the tee (50-100 times) daily and taking a couple of rounds of BP from time to time. His approach at the plate (in the cage) looks sound and he just about mirrors his right handed swing. The ball "seems" to be jumping off the bat more too. My questions are: What, if anything, else can he do to be successful from the left? What game situations dictate him hitting lefty, i.e. L/Rhp or men on base.....?

Thanks

It's a fact that a lefty hitter never has to face a RHP pitcher hurling a good curveball at his head only to tail away as a strike. It's also a fact that more pitchers in MLB are righties. If he pulls the pitch, he has a slightly better chance to get a triple (outfielder's skill being equal.)

What isn't a fact but is alluded to by some baseball players is lefties seem to pound inside balls better. They credit this to the fact that a lefty swinger usually winds up facing 1B.

Truth or fiction, it seems being a lefty hitter in baseball is advantageous all other things being equal.
