I am lefty ex major leaguer, the snap throw can be effective BUT it can also do some  damage to shoulder or elbow if done improperly. Some major league teams discourages their staff from utilizing this move. Be careful, I prefer to hang gently at the top of leg left and let runner commit first, if so nail him, if not your catcher will nail him because jump is too late.

Dee pee how would you use this move the proper way without getting hurt.

A good throw has a somewhat of a circular motion, so should a pickoff attempt from a lefty. There are no corners in a circle so your snap throw to first should not produce  a sharp motion snapping your arm back at the top and then forward. ( hence , corner to corner)
