My rising junior son throws lefty sidearm. Very successful as a reliever and occasional starter in JV and travel. Varsity coach says his "velocity is not good enough for Varsity hitters", but "he may have a slot for him next year". He's throwing about 70 with significant late movement on 2 adn 4 seam. Has a nasty curve and gets guys out. Not sure what the coach is worried about. Any rate . . . most pitching coaches try to get him to throw overhand, but I'm thinking no. A good submariner can be a unique and distinguishable talent. Done right it can save your arm as well. Anybody know a good submarine pitching coach? we live in loudoun county.
