NH Champs Post #54 - 5
Rhode Island Champs - 1

Lucas Olen continued his outstanding post-season with a complete game 4 hitter against the RI Champs from Cranston. Olen struck out 7 and allowed a single walk to setup the NH champs for a 7PM game on Friday night against the winner of tonight's 7PM game between the VT Champ and the Host team from Maine. Post #54 took a slim 2-1 lead into the top of the 8th inning when Mike Laflamme led-off with a base hit and promptly stole 2nd. After 2 quick fly outs to centerfied, Pat Parker delivered Laflamme with the insurance run on a sharp single to left field. Olen, who had struckout the side in the 7th, worked out of a 1st and 3rd 1 out situation in the bottom of the 8th by inducing an infield popup and a swinging strikeout. Joey Maher led off the top of the 9th with a basehit to rightfield. Ian Urquhart reached 1st on a fielder's choice, erasing Maher. Jordan St. Jean followed with a single to left and then Matt Woodmansee hustled down the line to avoid an inning ending double play by a 1/2 step. Laflamme drove in Urquhart with a sharp single to center for the 4th run. Mike Skilton drew a walk and Zach Husband delivered Woodmansee for the final run with an infield single. Olen finished the game by getting the RI DH swinging. Justin Walsh and Skilton each had 2 hits for the NH Champs and Walsh scored the 1st run on a Maher basehit.

NH Champs Post #54 - 4
Vermont Champs - 0

Joey Maher followed up Lucas Olen's gem from yesterday with one of his own. Maher thew a complete game, 1 hit shoutout to earn Post #54 a spot in the winner's bracket final against the CT State Champs from Norwalk tomorrow at 7PM. Vermont's lone hit was a bunt single in the 6th inning. Maher struckout 7 and the Post #54 outfield only had to register 2 outs all night. On the offensive side, Matt Woodmansee led the way going 3-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Similar to yesterday's game, Post #54 held a slim 2-0 lead late in the game despite the lopsided number of hits. With 2 outs in the top of the 8th, Jordan St. Jean doubled to left. Woodmansee lined an 0-2 pitch to right plating St. Jean and then took 2nd on the outfield throw to home. Mike Laflamme followed with a single to right plating Woodmansee to make up the final 4-0 score. All 9 Post #54 starters registered a hit with Mike Skilton getting 3, while Pat Parker, Ryan Mossman and St. Jean had 2 each. Zach Husband drove in the 2nd run with a single to center. The Bedford defense had an error free game and turned two double plays.
NH Champs Post #54 - 4
CT Champs - 2

Tom Hudon continued the stellar starting pitching that Post #54 has enjoyed throughout the post season. Hudon held the previously unbeaten CT Champs from Norwalk to 2 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits. He struckout 6 over six strong innings of work before handing the ball to his Merrimack High teammate Spencer Damon. Damon was superb in relief, facing the minimum 9 batters over the final three innings. He struckout 4 including the final out to earn the save and preserve the win for Hudon. Post #54 got all the runs they would need in the top half of the 2nd. Pat Parker singled and advanced to 3rd on a double by Justin Walsh. Parker and Walsh scored on a Ryan Mossman double to right center. Mossman then scored on a fielder's choice by Jordan St. Jean. Mike Skilton completed the scoring with a line drive homerun over the left field wall in the top of the 3rd. As a result of the win, post #54 has ensured themselves a spot in the championship game on Monday. They play the once beaten MA State Champs tomorrow at 7PM, while the CT Champs take on the once beaten NY Champs at 1PM. A Post #54 victory would have them playing the winner of CT/NY on Monday at 1PM with a second game at 7PM should they lose the first. Even with a loss to MA, Post #54 would earn a spot in a winner-take-all game at 7PM versus the winner of the 1PM game that would pit MA versus the CT/NY winner.
Bedford does it again!! 3-1 win today, complete game by Mossman. They have NY tomorrow and have to win one of two games against them to advance to the world series. Pat Parker was 3-3 today with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. He is now 7-17 in the tournament. He is one of the top hitters in the state and now he is proving he is one of the top hitters in the region.
Since the topic of this thread is Legion-Northeast Regional, I guess it's appropriate to give some props and press, here,to the Merrimack Post 98 Junior Legion team who won the New Hampshire State Tourney and is headed to New Bedford MA for the Regionals. They open Friday against the RI champ.
It's hard to get press for a group of young men who have gone 20-6 on the year, with no Senior Legion program to funnel players down in a dual-roster situation, and only a 13-man roster. Three players are 17-year old, and 8 players are 15 and under.
