Posted: Wednesday, July 24, 2013 10:26 pm | Updated: 10:43 pm, Wed Jul 24, 2013.

The proclaimed “Cardiac Kids” were at it again Wednesday night.

Danville Post 325 completed an improbable rally in the bottom of the ninth when Gavin Payne hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Ryne Sigmon and give Post 325 an 11-10 win over Chesapeake Post 280 Wednesday night at Market Garden Field.

“You call them the Cardiac Kids again, because it’s priceless,” Danville manager Buddy Sigmon said. “These kids are going to hit....

Just to clarify ... Post 368 Denbigh was the "runner-up" to Post 39 Williamsburg who won the district 3 title outright.

TCW...thanks for the post on the Danville game.  That guy should send his resume to The Pilot; he knows how to cover a baseball game.

Congrats to Danville knocking off Post 280.  That's not easy to do.

Just curious about where Post 280 played this year.  Looked like they were the only Senior Legion team in District Two.

Is this Post 39's year to win it all?

The heyday of American Legion baseball on the Peninsula, from the 1960s to 1980s, when a big Warwick Post 255 vs. Newport News Post 25 game could draw more than 1,000 fans to Deer Park, is well in the past.

The proliferation of travel ball has siphoned off much of the top-shelf talent, and the costs to Legion posts of fielding teams has become so high...

Bolka bolsters Mechanicsville

In June, after the first three games of the season, Mechanicsville Post 175 was 1-2. It was a modest start for a team that had won its first 25 games and the district championship a year ago.

Post 125 gets unlikely win

BY JORDAN BONDURANT Richmond Times-Dispatch | Posted: Thursday, July 25, 2013 12:00 am

CHESTERFIELD A fielder’s choice with runners in scoring position was enough to score Wesley Steelman with the go-ahead run for Lakeside Post 125 in the American Legion District 11 Tournament at L.C. Bird High School. Post 125 held off Mechanicsville Post 175 (21-4) in the bottom of the 11th to seal the victory and force a winner-take-all game tonight at Bird beginning at 7 p.m.

The win was the fifth in a row for Post 125 (14-12) in the tournament, as ...

Vienna 180 Repeats as District Tourney Champs

by DAVE FACINOLI, Staff Writer | Posted: Friday, July 26, 2013 7:44 am

Throughout the season, Vienna Post 180 has bent a bit on defense at times during games, but for the most part the baseball team has not had major breakdowns with multiple errors and walks.

That formula earned Vienna its second straight American Legion District 17 tournament championship. ...

Post 21 still up 9 to 2 in the top of the 7th.

It was reported that Post 21's starting pitcher, Addison Barber took a line drive in the knee in the 1st inning.  One other coach watching from stands thought there is no way he can continue but he has as the individual stated he's been masterful with FB, Change piece and CB.

A few things stood out to me regarding this story about Post 175 vs. Danville.

First, Bolka went six innings, giving up 5 hits, 11 K's, 4 BB's, and 2 HBP's. Considering that he's normally fairly erratic around the strike zone, I would have to imagine that his pitch count ran pretty high even in only six innings. If you do the math, just the stats above require a minimum of 56 pitches (and that's assuming three pitch strikeouts and four pitch walks). Does anybody have any idea how many pitches Bolka ended up tossing?

The other thing that stood out to me was that down by three in the 9th, Thomas got on base, stole second, and ultimately got thrown out at home tagging up. That's really dumb baseball (assuming the paper has it right).

Just my observations
