He and the Heath coach (two buddies) with some collaboration from HP have penalized Poteet players. Basically because they don't like Doe for whatever their reasoning is. Each team has more or the same amount of "all District and other awards" as Poteet.

A team ranked 13th by USA today.
1st or 2nd in the State depending on Moody’s loss.
1st in North Texas

How can this happen?

Pretty much exactly what I wrote:
I saw the District awards and something definitely wasn't right. So I checked with a source close to the district and this is what happened. Too bad the coaches can't keep it between them.

Now Boxley would have you believe that he is "disciplining" the players for a rowdy dugout, but I go to many different big games a year to report on them and this year Poteet's has been no different than anyone else's. Poteet could have used some restraint in the past but they seem fine this season and Doe has been much quieter.
There is just no way that Poteet should have less all district players and the kids I saw on the list are pretty questionable based on what I saw. Again, I cover games and see players from all over the area.

In addition, HP has some of the most un-sportsman like players around if you ever get close to the field and listen to their teams. I covered a game that they locked out the opposing team from using their batting cages for warm-ups.

Disappointing.
OldDude,

If I understand his post, he is saying that the coaches from Heath, HP and Forney conspired to vote against the Poteet players and vote for each others' players for all-district honors.

First, that sounds like a pile of crapola.

Second, I don't know about other districts, but District 5-5A does not allow the release of the all teams from that district have been eliminated from the playoffs. If that is the case with this district, how can bbman know this?

At Northwest, we never hear anything until the paper releases it as well. I understand some other schools will announce it at their Athletics Banquet, but they don't say anything at ours unless all teams are out of the playoffs. Don't see that happening this weekend.
Tycho---same with HP. Only information we get is when it shows up in the DMN.

BMan--no clue what you are talking about as I have no clue who did or didn't make anything; but it seems to me that there is always a certain degree of politics involved with any vote and its especially true with baseball. Heck half the score-keepers won't agree on what is a hit and what is an error. How can you expect anything more with any all-district list? You only have to look to last year when a certain 2nd team all-state SS from HP who batted approx .450 didn't make first team district but a certain Pirate with a nice blood-line who batted in the .250 range did. Still scratching my head on that one but it is what it is. But I'll still congraduate the kid that won because he did nothing but play the game. He didn't vote. In my book that's all that counts. Play hard. Play with passion.

As far as any great conspiracy, heck best I can tell 3/4 of the coaches in the area don't like our coach for one reason or another and my guess is the only agreement you could ever forge together would be one bus money out of town.

Finally, if its OK by you I'm not going to comment on the sportsmanship issue. Let's just say that this isn't my first rodeo and that no one is lilly white on this. All I will say is that I've been told some amazing things other teams have said to/about our guys (even heard some myself) that are way out of line. If you have that impression about the Scots, then please accept my apology; but I will say that if you think only a handful of teams are guilty, I'm confident you either don't have the entire picture or can only see or hear the things you want to see.

Rather than whine about who won what silly award when someone else 'deserved' it more, I suggust we all just go politely congraduate those that won and then go take care of busines on the field. Playing in Austin June 4-5 has much more importance anyway doesn't it?

Just my opinion of course.
A few simple observations, from my experience:

1) Some kids are omitted because of their behavior.
2) Some kids are slighted because of their coach.
3) The list is "leaked" early in some districts.
4) The best players are not always elected.

I have discussed some of these things with our HS coach and he has indicated, on more than one occasion, that there is not much (if any) politicing in the D9-5A meeting. He says the kids are "boarded" and the coaches vote. It's that simple in some cases.
Panther Dad,

You seriously need to shut this thread down! This is absolutely no place to air dirty laundry Baseball(boy)man.

I am still wiping the tears from my eyes after reading Olddude's sad story about HP's SS last year, Wahhhhhhhhh!

The beast half hearted attempt to support Old Olddude, when deep down he agrees with baseballboy.

This thread is comical and those posting here are included...I guess that includes me.
Baseball Man,
You might want to do a little research before whining about PHS getting left out of any all district honors. First I will tell you I have watched Poteet baseball for many many years. This years team just has no top players. Poteet has traditionally not had top of the line players. Their strength has always been its coaching. Ted Sr. and now coach Doe are some of the best coaches around at the team concept. They always get the most out of what they have to work with. Poteet has always been a top area team because they are a top TEAM. Look at where their schools rank in the all 4a area stats on DMN and no, The Morning news doesn't have it in for them. I am not going to name players by name.I will just show their school, but look where they fall in the top 25 in each major category.

The numbers don't lie.
If you just totaled all these up;

PHS= 5
HP= 16
Forney= 9
Heath= 5
Beast,
Good point. I realized that today as I listened on the radio and found out JS had 13 stolen bases this year. I always thought coach Miller kept all that updated. Poteet is good no matter what the numbers say anyway. I am sure they will be right back in the hunt next year and the year after. The only thing that would derail their success in the future is a coaching change.

I know if I had a 5A program I would throw large amounts of money at Coach Doe.

You have a pM beast

Well I meant large amounts for baseball coaches. I know schools have to save the big money for football unfortunately
