One would think that President Obama and bin Laden were holding a debate at 11:00 EST this morning they way they are carrying on about Tiger woods---are there not more important things in the world to worry about today-- all three major networks are scheduled to air it as well as just about every ESPN station.

Does what Woods does or says really and truly matter ??

To me it doesn't --- I could care less

I actually think him coming forward during another big sporting event was planned. I imagine he was hoping the Olympic "drama" and news coverage would overshadow his apology and that he could slide right back into competition again with little up-roar from the public.

To an extent, I think its working as most of the media is busy covering the cat fight in the men's Olympic figure skaters.

The real test will be if Tiger's press coverage takes backseat to Olympic Curling results...

I think he is sorry he got caught. The only thing he seemed to show emotion over in his speech were the alleged misdeed's of the media in reporting the event. Save the crocodile tears Tiger imho.

He made his bed, now he has to lie in it.

I'm certain that for some time to come that the galleries around him will not let him forget his deeds. I'm not saying I agree with that statement, just stating that it's probably a true prediction.

I'm a big believer in forgiveness and second chances. I hope for his wife and kids sake that he does in fact learn from this and become a better husband and father first and foremost. If that means taking 1-3yrs off from golf, so be it. He has the money to take that kind of time away I'm sure.

Right now until baseball kicks off today the only important thing to me is watching the USA Women's curling team beat Russia! GO USA!

I can see we are in total agreement on this one Big Grin

I would like to address YGD's comment above about forgiveness. I also agree people should be forgiven. The only people Tiger should be apologizing to are his family and perhaps close friends. Why is he coming on TV apologizing to everyone else? That is meaningless and tells me it is ALL for show. The speech was designed for his image and nothing more imiho. His lecturing about his family was more than I could take. He is the last guy who needs to be lecturing.

All that said - I still like Tiger and will still probably watch him play golf. He was about the only reason I watch anyway. He needs to forget about winning the public back imho because it looks like a cheap ploy to get his endorsements back imho.

A media person followed the kids and publicly disclosed where they attend school. Woods makes a lot of money. The kids are potential kidnap and ransom victims. I'd be ticked about this too.

This was a media event not worth happening. The only significant news, and he didn't provide it, is when he's returning to the tour.
Just heard that Tiger will be on a new show next season, Celebrity s-e-x Rehab.

Michael Vick will be a guest judge at the Westminster dog show.(tough dogs now favored)

Mark McGwire will be on the back of the Wheaties box. Sort of an "After" picture.

All 3 will be on next seasons Jersey Shore and 1 will be Snooky's baby daddy.

Forgiveness? Nah, they want to be back on the pedestal.

This is a "Media Circus"! I don't condone what Eldrick did! He is not that "Perfect" athlete/citizen that the media and public portrayed him as. I will say that "We" are partly to blame for this circus. Not only is he headline news on ESPN and our local networks, but he's headline news in this forum and other public forums on the web.

Tiger messed up! It's up to his wife to decide whether or not she wants to forgive him. However, Golf needs Tiger Woods...not to mention, Sports needs Tiger Woods! Now, let the guy go back to therapy and leave him alone. He shouldn't have to answer questions from the media, he already admitted to his infidelities and has lost the respect of many people. What good would come from opening up old wounds? It's none of our business...Okay, I got that off my chest, let's get back to talking baseball!
I don't agree he just has to answer to his family. What happens with him and his wife, if they stay together, is his business. Leave his family alone.

Tiger has made millions from endorsements of products that we everyday ordinary people buy, parents of young kids spend lots of bucks on lessons hoping their kids will be the next Tiger Woods, etc.I am glad he apologized to parents.

Fame and fortune is not always a wonderful thing.

What I don't agree with was how it was handled, he should have made a statement when this all came out and gone into rehab and it would be done until he got better. I do not like what he did, he obviously has a problem, I was glad to see him mom there. I know if it were my son with an addiction problem I would want to help him get better, no matter what the addiction, IF it was truely an addiction. The guy most likely has some deep rooted issues he needs to work out.

I did post this before, recently my husband and I met a golf pro who has been on the tour with Tiger. He told us that everyone knew about Tiger, his women and his drinking, the press as well, but they all protected him, sad how they are going after him tooth and nail at this time.

I used to have a dog. I wasn't paying attention one time and dog got out. The dog got run over and killed. I was ticked. So, I had a chat with the man in the mirror about it.

Tiger is the best player to lace up spikes, that I can remember. Even Nicklaus has said Tiger does things with a golfball Jack only dreamed about. I cannot wait for him to play again. He is the straw in golf.

He isn't the first (or last) athletic superstar who messed up very badly. Why he insists on blaming the media for the current attention, that he's managed to focus on himself for the last 20 years, is simply beyond me.

If he really wants to end the attention, the solution is quite simple. Announce retirement and disappear. When you become public you get the media on the good days and the bad. He needs to wear it, own it and live it.

I don't quite see why he owes the public an explanation if what he did was cheat on his wife. Seems like his problems are related to the marriage and that's his business. If people are short-sighted and spending a boatload of loot on golf lessons so they can be the next Tiger, maybe mom and dad should explain to their kid they're spending the loot on golf, not to do exactly what Tiger does in his private life and that everybody has to live their own life, not somebody elses. A well grounded kid with a little guidance gets this.

I don't get the *** rehab deal. There's lots of guys out there who are stuck in neutral and wish they had Tigers problem. Why rehab for *** addiction since all he did was chase skirt. His biggest mistake was getting married if he wanted to sow them wild oats. It would be a non-story had he stayed single. Maybe they need a marriage counsellor but *** therapy?. He probably did the therapy for his endorsements and that he can say he's reforming or some crazy nonsense like that.

I'd say they protected him because no guy's gonna rat out another guy whan it comes to a guy fooling around on his wife. Since Tiger brought it out on his own, the others who knew didn't have to rat him out and the story grew legs on it's own. It's easy for the rest of the golfers now to give him the business and IMO, the reasons why they are is because they can't beat him and they probably can't stand his guts and are figuring the tournament he don't play, they got a shot to win. Otherwise, there's be no reason for his peers to go at him tooth and nail. Of course, if Tiger don't play, the raitings go down the toilet so this I suppose could affect prize money available in these tournaments. They're hippocrites for sure.

One thing's for sure, he sure screwed the pooch on this whole deal.

"And yet, according to the Journal of Couple and Relationship Therapy, approximately 50 percent married women and 60 percent of married men will have an extramarital affair at some time in their marriage."

Obviously the posters at HSBBW all belong to the 40% of men who never cheat.

We are indeed blessed to have such a virtuous group.

I think this was more than cheating on your wife, this is more like cheating on everyone. And unfortunetly, the enablers are now the ones who want to ask all of the questions. BTW, the pro also told us that no one spoke up about it because he was also their paycheck AND they weren't too lily white themselves.
We don't know the whole story either, we don't know whether his wife or family was aware of all of this, and I don't beleive for one minute she didn't go after him with a golf club, he was running away from HER!
Jimmy count me in that 40 percent and darn proud of it. First of all Tiger I dont want or need an apology from you. I am not married to you. You are not my father. You are not a member of my family. What you do on your own time is your own business. If you want to fool around on your wife , if you want to cheat on your family thats your business. If you want to have to explain to your children one day why you had to go into "*** therapy" then go for it. I could careless.

Why does he need to apologize to the public? The only people he needs to make this right with is his family. The only reason he is apologizing to the public is to try and restore his public image so he can one day regain his endorsement deals. Peope who put athletes or celebrities on pedastals and encourage their kids to do so as well are setting themselves up for a big let down. They are not role models for life they are entertainers. I watch Tiger Woods play golf because he is extremely talented at golf. Period.

He has had since Thanksgiving to prepare his apology. It was scripted and thought out over several months. Should I forgive Tiger? Why? There is nothing to forgive him for. He doesnt owe me anything and I surely dont owe him anything. He assisted mightily in the promotion of his image. And now he wants to restore his image. Good luck but personally I could careless.
I follow golf very closely, and have been watching Tiger since he was about 12. I've always been a fan of his golf ability, and I appreciate the many, many wonderful moments he has given those who love tournament golf.

I guess you can say I am a fan of Tiger's. That said, I have never been all that fond of his public persona. Always found him pretty distant and cold, never revealed much about himself. Rarely said anything surprising in an interview.

So when his troubles came out, I can't say I cared all that much. I really am a fan of Tiger's because of his golf skill. As a person - well, honestly - how can someone like him grow up and be even remotely normal? I wasn't all that surprised that his personal life was such a mess, and that he isn't a paragon of virtue.

But I didn't really care all that much. I just hope he keeps playing golf and giving us the drama on the course that he has been so great at for the better part of the last two decades.
