I have been on this forum for 2 days now and I can't belive some of the hitting talks. People talk about throwing hands, elbows up, getting stride done earlier. Has any one herd of momentum, levers, physics explain the swing and video, or dvds, prove it. The one good coment I read was the back knee goes first before the hips or the hands. But if you were to get real technical think about what the knee does...hinge joint...so it can't really breake towards the plate with out some ball and socket joint...hip joint.

I think it is a quick push off the back foot driving the rear leg forward which begins the chain of events. Like you said the back knee does not bend toward the plate but the leg moves slightly toward the plate with an explosive push off the ball of the foot then hands then the hips.
This however as you will learn (if you have not already) is just one of many approaches to hitting a baseball.
Agree with rz1-The hitting forum is where these topics usually unfold.
