My son figured there could be a lot of responses on this board for this one. In seriousness of the game it's right up there with "boxers or briefs."

Does you son wear his pant legs down or up (geeked up as my son now calls it)? Why?

My son always wore his up jacked up to be old school until he realized how much shorter he was than his teammates this year. They grew first. Most are tall kids anyway. He pulled the pant legs down to make his legs look longer. He's since grown, but he has "cool" so nailed now (he's that age), with the gloves in the back pockets and the Oakley's, I know they'll never go up again unless told to by a coach.

So .... up or down .... and why?

TG, that is an easy one. Depends on whether your are "scufflin" or not.
Went to a Giants game with our son. He watched each at bat of a rookie who was struggling a bit, well a lot at midseason.
This shows how well players watch the game. First time up, pants down, K. Next time up, pants up, ground out.
Next time up, pants down, fly out.At this point, I hear the comment on how this guy is struggling. My response:"what do you mean." I learn... and it is fun to know I am watching the AB's and he is watching them and everything that leads up to them, including changes in pants length. 4th at bat, pants up, single.
When you are hitting .320, the pants don't change. Two days, 0'fer, you change. Easy as that.

Mine prefers up, but for three years had to wear them down and tucked into his cleats. I caught him with them up last week. Since he is so tall, up used to work better for him instead of looking like he had outgrown them. Roll Eyes

I think it depends on the coach or manager of the team.

I like them down. But up or down I think all players should look the same on the field.
Always up when he has the choice...
and always with pants tucked neatly so the elastic band doesn't show...
and always with no-show socks underneath the athletic socks...
and always with shorts on underneath the pants...
and the stuff still looks like it would fall off if he didn't have a belt.

It's also good when the hat has the sweat look

Amateur players (and to go back 20-25 years (and probably the newer Mommy and Daddy too), have not a clue about wearing baseball uniform pants "bloused".

(The approach was around in Army regs manual - WW1 (when my grand-dad taught it to me), and it might be a little fact finding trivia to uncover it's origin or practice. I could just imagine how Homeland Security Agency could have a $100M training budget for it today!)

Benefits and How to "Blouse" your pants:

Wearing your uniform pants “bloused” provides:
- Some exposure protection from mosquitoes and ticks,
- Protection from chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Protection from 'Does a Bear squat in the woods'
- A cleaner look
- A place to hide your cash

lol

How to blouse:

1. Put on your pants and spikes on as you normally would.

2. Pull with your pants down around your shoes.

3. If you pants have ties sewn into the ankle hem, tie them around your ankles, just below the top of the stockings (Optional).

4. Otherwise pull your pant legs below your stirrups/stocking about 2 inches.

5. Affix a “blousing band” (optional) or rubberband (optional) or tape (the Yankee's method) over the inside or your pants, about 2 inches below the top of the stocking/stirrups.

Blousing bands (optional) are simple elastic strips
or with more recent elastic coming out in baseball pant may not be needed.

6. Pull your pants back up.

cheers
