I'm no expert, but everyone knows without enough protein any attempts to build muscle will fail.
My son (16) needs to bulk up. It's widely recommended that someone trying to gain muscle mass (naturally!!) should consume protein at the rate of 1 gram per pound of body weight each day. That's a lot of protein!
One of the easiest ways to supplement your protein intake in sizeabkle doses is whey protein. However, my son had an instant aversion to whey protein 'shakes' -- he likes chocolate, but just couldn't abide the frothy, chalky shakes. I decided to mix it with something more palatable and went off to the store to buy Hershey's chocolate milk mix. But then I noticed a can of Ovaltine next to the Hersheys. Ovaltine - didn't even know they still made the stuff! It is MUCH healthier than Hersheys, lots of vitamins. Brought home a tin, mixed it in with one cup of milk and one scoop of whey protein.....and he liked it! In fact, he gulped it down without stopping. He'll down four of these per day which will give him about 50% of the protein he'll need to bulk up (in conjunction with strength training of course).
So - for those of you looking to get enough protein without drowning yourself in eggs (try Bettr 'n Eggs or egg whites - both sold in cartons), or countless hunks of chicken breast and lean beef, try supplementing with whey mixed with Ovaltine. It may do the trick in helping you stay on course with your protein needs, and give your body a good injection of crucial vitamins as well!
