A core of parents are interested in looking at how we might be able to help our boys' college Athletic Dept acquire LiveStats technology for the 2012 season (SideArm Sports). I have emailed the company, but just wondering if anyone might have a ballpark figure of what we're looking at dollar-wise in advance of a reply.

We can then get with the AD and see how fundraising might help the program set up this technology.

Thanks

Look into the Game Changer product. It is awesome! We used it for this summer and for a $10.00 one time charge you can get play by play of the games progress. The scorekeeper does it on an ipad or iphone. Creates box scores, stats, etc...really good product. They had a tent/booth in East Cobb this summer and PG is using it. Can't say enough about it. Just google it and I'm sure you'll find it.
I followed my son at two different tournaments this summer on GameChanger. It was great! For only $10, it was well worth it.

Of course any following software is only as good as the data entry clerk. There were several inexplicable things that occured which could only be ironed out on the phone after the game (like a throw from the outfield which went into the dugout that was scored an error + a balk or having a pitch count of 35 after four innings when the dugout had 47).

If the you have somebody who knows how to score entering the data, it's great. Heck, it's even great when you're sitting at your desk 1,500 miles away and then data isn't perfect.

You can broadcast live video with UStream. Last spring, I watched a bunch of games- different sports, different locations. Some were basic, like watching a traffic cam. Some were pretty slick productions, with announcers, multiple cameras and graphics. The 'basic' package is free (banner ads). You may need permissions from the school and conference to use it.

Whatever you decide, make sure you have a strong signal at the field (cell or intranet). It's frustrating when your kid is on deck and the next update you get is three innings and thirty minutes later because the signal cut out.
