The RTD is officially on my s*&# list.

Monday they had Glen Allen playing at home at 1pm.  GA was home.  Their JV team!

Tuesday they had Deep Run at home at 1pm. They were home.  I arrived at 12:30pm hoping to see I/O.  I caught the last 3 outs of the game.

Wednesday (today) they have Freeman at Lee Davis listed as 6pm start.  I finally smartened up and contacted the coach directly.  Its a 3pm start.  Always has been.

4/8 - DSF at LD 3pm

4/9 - Godwin at LD - 1pm

See you out there.

Nansemond River beats Hanover 5-4.  It's the second win against a defending state champion in as many weeks.

Both teams threw multiple arms.  Hanover was not as clean on defense as I'm sure they are accustomed.  A couple of costly errors got NR going early.  Late in the game with NR leading 4-1, and runners on 1st and 2nd, Hanover laid down a sac bunt, and ghosts of Great Bridge past emerged.  An errant throw to first allowed one run to score, cutting the lead to 4-2.  Hanover now has runners at 2nd and 3rd.  Shortly thereafter, a hard hit line drive to left center carries just over the NR left-fielders' glove to score both runners.  Game tied 4-4.

In the bottom of the 6th, NR gets a leadoff walk.  Eventually that runner scores on a safety squeeze.  NR would leave runners at 2nd and 3rd.  Michael Blanchard threw a clean 7th for the save, striking out two.

Two very talented teams.

Colonial Heights is still undefeated as of today - Monacan gave them a scare with a 2 out 2-run HR in the bottom of 7 and then loaded the bases with 0 out in the bottom of 8 but Noah Murdock K'd the side and gave CH the chance to score 6 in the top of 9 to preserve their "O".

Of course, now that we are addressing it they will likely spit the bit tomorrow vs Clover Hill.....

Not sure of the details, but shutting out Hickory is no small feat.  One thing I've observed is Hanover's ability to make the most out of any given situation.  They have an uncanny ability to take the one mistake that you make, and make you pay for it.  This speaks to them being well-coached of course, but more so that the young men buy in, and understand the significance of taking pride in doing all of the small things.  I suspect that showed up at some point today, in a 1-0 ballgame.  This is also how you win back to back state championships!  Having a little talent doesn't hurt either!

Good luck the rest of the way...most of it!

Western Branch is still unbeaten.  They still have two left in FL. but should they come through unscathed it would be reasonable to think they'll start turning up in the various polls.  They might get beat down the line but they are probably looking at another regional appearance I would think.

Hanover is apparently looking for honorary SED membership, just need to get WB on their schedule!  Good to see some of the intra state games that we didn't get so much of before when almost entire schedules were district/conference games.

I think that with the emergence of GF with IR & OS as more consistent squads and improved KF the ole SED will be well represented when playoff time comes.

Here are some of the details of the Hickory - Hanover game.  Eason faced 24 batters allowing 2 hits, walking two and picking off one (for Hanover's last out of the game.)  One of the walked batters (#2 - didn't get the name but it must be Moore since #2 also was the closer), batting in the 8-hole, was the first batter in the top of the 6th.  He was sac'd to second by the 9-hole hitter, held at second on a comebacker to the pitcher and came home on a double (Hanover's first hit of the game) to left by Cayman Richardson for the only run of the game.  Hanover had threatened in the top of the 3rd.  #2 (Moore) walked, stole second and was sac'd to 3rd by #8, the 9-hole hitter.  The one-hole hitter (#14) flew out to right field and #2 (Moore) was thrown out at the plate by the right fielder, Stephen Polansky.

On the Hickory side of offense, Hickory had its chances.  Hickory had at least one baserunner in every inning except the bottom of the 7th (when Moore sat Hickory down in order) and left approximately 11 on base.  Lyttle allowed only three hits, one each by Ryan Bergland, Mikey Polansky and Matt Montegue, but there were 8 free passes (5 BB, 1HP and 2E) which allowed Hickory to reach base.
