I just got back from a HS game played on a Friday night under the lights. The venue was city park with an old WPA stadium. The two local teams, one in red the other in blue, one the public school one the local private school. What makes it special is the crowd of 800 to 900 filling the stands and surrounding the field.
This game is played every year and the crowd is great. Students, faculty, alumni and everyone in the town that has been associated with youth baseball.
When I go to this game, I ask myself why can't it be like this for every game. Then I realize it wouldn't be special if every game was like this.
What kind of local traditions do you have that make HS or youth baseball special in your community?
