I'm not positive about the pitcher's mound. I know at UVA they have cutout of the V with sabres that they put down on the infield dirt prior to watering. They then water the field, so the wet dirt is dark, while the dirt under the cutout is dry and lighter colored. Depending on heat, you can usually see the logo into the middle innings of the game. My guess is they do the same thing for the pitcher's mound, but for some reason I'm thinking that the logo is ususally darker dirt on the mound. My guess is that they do it with water, but I'm not sure how.
